Taking My Car Over The Border Into Malaysia

Featured Replies

hey guys..... i am really interested in driving my car over the border into malaysia for a little look around

anyone know what are the current rules, what papers will i need, and are there any requirements for my car (i read about no tinted windows greater than 40%)?

do i need to pay for insurance or anything else at the border?

i found one link on thaivisa but it was 2008, so i thought it may be out of date..... anyone know the current requirements?

happy trekking.........

Maybe this thread could be moved to the South Thailand forum, there is bound to be people who know about it there.

Anyone ... I'm thinking if doing the same...from Phuket

Surely not a question that the lovely TV people cannot answer??!! i have never seen it before.......

come on guys, dont be lazy, share your knowledge :)

Get your blue book translated at your local DLT- they'll convert the Thai characters on your license plate to roman numerals / letters and issue some documents. It's really cheap.

Thai Drivers liscense is valid throughout ASEAN.

You will need to purchase insurance after you enter Malaysia. Understand it's easy to find at Sadao. Less easy at some other crossing points.
