PATTAYA: Following direct orders from the Chonburi Police Commander over 30 late night venues were checked by Police and District Officials in the early hours of Tuesday and many irregularities were found.

Officers went to Bars in many areas, including North Pattaya, Walking Street in South Pattaya and Jomtien. They checked staff and patrons but were mainly looking for venues which were either unlicensed or operating outside of their license conditions.

15 venues were found to be unlicensed and the managers and owners of them were detained and taken to Pattaya Police Station. A number of patrons and staff members who were not carrying their Thai ID cards, which is a requirement under Thai Law, and were also arrested.

They were checking the ferang owned bars in Soi Bukhow last week as well when some football games were on. No license/bribe = no selling beer.

They didn't seem so concerned about the Thai owned place next door, wierd that.

How about all those Thai bars on 3rd road. Doubt most of them are licensed.

Been told Insomnia has been shut down for 3 months, I doubt very much they was "unlicensed".

No big...there is no shortage of bars in Pattaya...the least ferengs can do is follow the law when doing business in Thailand.

Besides the moving goal posts...

Does anyone know the step-by-step rules for a bar to become licensed? I would think, and I am usually wrong, that the business license department at city hall would have a check list.

Anyone who can confirm that?

What about the police owned bars that operate after hours, run prostitutes, serve on restricted holidays, pay the staff less than minimum wage...?

Be happy they exist otherwise it would be very bored on those restricted holidays.

Would in interesting to know if anyone knows for a fact how long, after Googling it appears some are saying 30 days not 3 months so I'm not sure. Maybe the closure was due to being being unlicensed for after hours???
