Lese majeste a pretext to topple govt by April: Jatuporn

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Pheu Thai MP Jatuporn Promphan on Thursday repeated his claim about opponents setting up a war room to cite the lese majeste issue as a pretext to topple the government by April.

"I have heard that a war room has been set up to oust the government," he said.

Jatuporn did not identify the opponents involving in the plot but said the lese majeste issue would be distorted in order to pin the blame on the government.

Commenting on a video clip revealing red-shirt chairwoman Thida Thawornseth's remarks about the linkage with the Nitirat academic group, he said the red shirts had never denied their ties with Nitirat.

In the clip, Thida drew an analogy to portray the reds being the right hand and Nitirat being the left hand working in concerted efforts to achieve a two-pronged strategy.

Jatuporn said the reds and Nitirat were free to persue their separate ideas.

"I am not panic-strickened to abandon (Nitirat) but I, Pheu Thai and Nitirat have respective stands," he said.

He said the Nitirat's proposal to amend the lese majeste law was meant to protect the monarchy but fell prey to a frame-up.

Even though the campaign to amend Article 112 of the Criminal Code could solicit 10,000 signatures of support, there would be no MPs dare to vote for the amendment, he said.

He called for Thammasat University rector Somkid Lertpaithoon to justify his ban against Nitirat.

More than 30 years ago, the bloodshed at Thammasat led to the amendment of Article 112, he said, urging Somkid to outline the facts related to the bloodshed and the fear for a repeat in connection with Nitirat.

He said Article 112 was not a problem in itself but the enforcement of the law under the Abhisit Vejjajiva government was problematic.

In 2002, there was no lese majeste case, he said, pointing out that under the Abhisit's leadership, the cases soar to more than 100 in 2009.

Ahh the court jester speaks again... its been a while since this clown was reported in the news...

and good to see his drivel hasn't changed much... "There is a plan to force out the government, but i am not prepared to give any details" - so basically i say this, put up or shut up... lay the evidence down (if you have any) or go back to your corner (jail) and stay quiet.

The political scientist Michael Barkun holds that a conspiracy theory is a belief which explains an event as the result of a secret plot by exceptionally powerful and cunning conspirators to achieve a malevolent end. According to Barkun, the appeal of conspiracism is threefold: First, conspiracy theories claim to explain what institutional analysis cannot. They appear to make sense out of a world that is otherwise confusing. Second, they do so in an appealingly simple way, by dividing the world sharply between the forces of light and the forces of darkness. They trace all evil back to a single source, the conspirators and their agents. Third, conspiracy theories are often presented as special, secret knowledge unknown or unappreciated by others. For conspiracy theorists, the masses are a brainwashed herd, while the conspiracy theorists in the know can congratulate themselves on penetrating the plotters' deceptions. (Wikipedia) wink.png

He has gotten to the point that he can be seen as the little boy riding down the freeway in the back seat. He is thumbing his nose at all the vehicles they pass. Its his moment of self preceived glory on his way to adulthood.

Red-shirt Leader Claims Nitirat Group Trying to Protect Monarch

A Pheu Thai red-shirt MP praises the anti-lese majeste law group for proposing a change to the Criminal Code's Section 112 concerning lese majeste and criticizes others for trying to distort the issue.

Pheu Thai party-list MP Jatuporn Prompan, who is also a leader of the red-shirt group, claimed that a group of academics calling themselves, the Nitirat Group is actually trying to protect the monarchy by proposing a change to the Section 112 of the Criminal Code on lese majeste.

Jautporn also asserts that some people have been trying to discredit the Nitirat Group by distorting the issue.

The Pheu Thai MP added that the Democrat Party has been exploiting the lese majeste law to persecute its political opponents.

However, he also urges the Nitirat Group to fight on, to clarify its point to society and not to fall into a political trap laid by its opposition.

Jatuporn said the public's misunderstanding of the issue could lead to another coup.

He also criticized those who have been politicizing the issue of monarchy, saying their loyalty to the crown should be questioned instead.

Pheu Thai party-list MP Jatuporn Prompan ... claimed that a group of academics calling themselves, the Nitirat Group is actually trying to protect the monarchy by proposing a change to the Section 112 of the Criminal Code on lese majeste.

How would changing article 112 protect the monarchy more than it already is? Are they saying that the law is currently not strong enough?

By lessening the penalties there may be less resentment or sense of injustice at some of the lengths of sentences handed out.

Sounds like the PTP needs to have a little get together and get their story straight. Chalerm is out to get the Nitirat group while Jatuporn is saying they are connected to the reds and Thida is saying they are part of a two prog strategy. There is an old term involving a circle and jerking which seems to apply here.

Deputy Agriculture Minister is Nattawut, not Jatuporn. Probably for the very first time I agree with a lot of what he says. As far as I am concerned he is still a loudmouth rabble-rouser though.

Lest you forget, the Nitirat group is not only for revising 112 but also a raft of other issues, some of which are not palatable to a certain group. However, rather than playing up the other issues, they spout on and on about 112 to stir up anti Nitirat feeling. In fact, I believe a lot of those claiming to be against touching 112 are indifferent about the matter, but the best way to avoid the other changes Nitirat is proposing is to focus on this issue alone.

As written, the LM law is wide open to political abuse by politicians who can use it to muzzle or intimidate their enemies. Some of the more radical yellows did it and I suspect that Chalerm is trying to do it as well!

Same as the libel laws, but both are double edge swords. Seems to me that the lunatics have taken over the asylum, 8 cabinet members on corruption charges, 1 on a US black list, 2 on terrorist charges. The leaders are a convicted criminal on the run from justice and his puppet PM sister, both have little or no control. but TIT

Better not allow discussion in this subject.

Too sensitive to Thai people.

Aren't you a Red Shirt apologist? Your hero brought it up.

Government Firm against Amending Lese Majeste

Foreign Minister Surapong Towichakchaikul said the government has no need to clarify or reply to the letter sent by 200 foreign academics to the prime minister, suggesting the Criminal Code's Section 112 on lese majeste be amended.

Surapong commented the proposal from those foreign academics could be from their lack of understanding of Thai culture.

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobumrung maintained no government members or members of the Pheu Thai Party agree with the proposed amendment of the lese majeste law.

However, Chalerm declined to comment on the Democrat Party's video clip of Pheu Thai MP Jatuporn Prompan expressing his support for the Nitirat group's campaign for an extensive change in the lese majeste law.

The deputy premier then said he has been assigned to look into a rumor that a certain group of people is plotting to topple the government by using the push for the lese majeste law amendment as an excuse.

So our esteemed PM says the country is stable and one of her own MP's says, again, that a coup is close in time.

Awesome.

LM is not only a restriction of free speach it is now used as an excuse for the army to get involved in politics with the ever present threat of yet another coup. Without it perhaps Thailand will be able to make some progress towards a true democracy. Its supporters should be ashamed of using the monarchy simply to try and legitimize outrageous persecution of political opponents.

There is no treat. There is only Jutaporns re-occurring 'let's scare followers into a coup treat-mode every 6month without any proof'.

So you support LM and its free speach restrictions?

LM is the main excuse for the army to stay involved in suppressing democracy

Where did my post say that?

It said that Jutaporn is paranoid and/or like to point out coup-treats that isn't to rally the minions, so they don't walk off and find a better group to try to rebuild the country with.
