Airstrikes in northwestern Pakistan kill 20 suspected militants

2012-02-03 06:32:17 GMT+7 (ICT)

PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least 20 suspected militants were killed in northwestern Pakistan on Wednesday when fighter jets carried out a series of airstrikes, officials said on Thursday.

The Pakistani fighter jets targeted suspected Taliban hideouts in the Orakzai Agency of Pakistan, which is one of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). The strikes were launched while ground forces also carried out operations.

Military sources told the Daily Times that the fighter jets targeted the hideouts of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander Mullah Toofan and commander Moheyuddin, who some suspect may have been killed during the strikes. At least four hideouts were struck by the fighter jets.

The airstrikes came just one day after suspected militants attacked a military check post in the Jogi Heights area in the Mamozai region of Kurram Agency. Eight military officials were killed during the attack.

20 Killed and only 'suspected' militants. I'm sure this thread will soon be buzzing with righteous indignation on behalf of the zealots, but hold on there were no drones involved, only fighter jets, Pakistani fighter jets...

Well you both are happy reading the word suspected and killed in the same sentence all of the time, it must help you to get through the day I guess.

I don't know about others but the two words I always like to see in the same sentence are...'killed and militants'.

I think I will reserve my righteous indignation for when Pakistani fighter jets attack Rhode Island. Though I don't condone the use of a country's military to attack their own citizens it is not exactly unusual however it is a totally different ball game to mounting attacks in another country.

Quite a number of the militants may actually be from another Country (To Pakistan that is).

Indeed - and significantly adding to the problem. It is the perogative of any sovereign nation to defend itself and its citizens from foreign militants be they individuals or acting on behalf of foreign governments. Whilst Pakistan and its government are recognised by the international community via the UN I abhor any unsanctioned attacks on its territory and would view it as a breach of international law.

Suspected? So no one knows if they are innocent or guilty.

You have to give them the benefit of the doubt and say innocent,

So yet again another bad job.
