New Passport

Featured Replies

My UK Passport has just been re-newed, how long do I have before I must transfer my Visa (runs out on the 25th January). THis is a 12 month Visa for working purposes (If that makes a difference) :D

many thanks in advance :o

Don't know that there is anything written in stone about the time frame but if I were a prudent rabbit I would make tracks for immigration immediately after receiving my new passport to get the information into it. Believe any random police check would go a lot better that way. :o

I second that, but it's not what I did and I might have been lucky! Not knowing anything about it I waited until I needed a new visa, I was on a double entry tourist visa then, and presented both passports at Don Muang immgration. They didn't say a word, just stamped me out in the new passport. I no doubt took an unknowing risk, but didn't have any problems.

Since it's such a quick and easy thing to do why take a chance? Took me about 10 minutes the last time I did it. It also costs nothing to do it except your transportion costs.

When you do go to immigration, as well as both passports, dont forget to take your receipt for the new passport issued by the British embassy, as this is needed.

I dont know if the British system is different but they did not actually transfer my visa because it is documented as being issued against original passport.

Immigration cross referenced (in their computer data base) and on the first page of my new passport stamped & entered all cross reference details - now I am required to carry both passports until 12 month visa expires and the replacement (once I apply for another 12 month non immg multi entry will be in the new passport) then the old one can go into the drawer.

I have done two visa runs with the two passports, the first was when they cross referenced the second about a month ago went smooth as silk with the two passports.

In the meantime carry both passports.

I wanted to ask a related question. I am a British citizen living in Bangkok on a 1 yr multiple entry non -immigrant O visa. I need to renew my British passport (renewed in 1998 in Singapore) as it only has a couple of pages left. My current passport has my visa, obtained from the Thai consulate in Hull, UK.

After I receive my new passport from the British Embassy in Bangkok how do I transfer the visa, which still has 8 months left, to my new passport? Is it simply a question of taking both passports to the Thai Immigration office on Soi Suan Plu?

Thank you

You do not need to transfer the multi-entry visa.

Just enter on your new passport, showing the visa in the old one.

Immigration will be quite happy with that.

Make sure the Embassy does not cancel (clip the corner off) the page with the visa.
