I've just got thru reading another thread on a Thai person who has entered on a UK passport and runs into associated visa/overstay issues. This seems to come up pretty regularly.

I'm curious, because I don't understand, why would a Thai citizen enter Thailand thru the use of a passport issued by another country? I don't understand why someone would do it and was wondering if someone could give me some reasons as to why it might be done.

I know in my country it's illegal to enter Australia on another passport if you have an Australian one.

I'm not having a go at anyone, seriously. Just can't figure out a reason why they'd do it.

I know in a few years when my wife gets citizenship and she goes to visit the family, she'll be entering on the Thai passport and not her Australian one.

Must admit it beats me too, although some may not know that they can use their expired Thai PP to enter.

I had a young Thai / Australian colleague who always entered Thailand on his Aussie PP. He said it was to avoid being in Thailand as a Thai to ensure he didn't get drafted. No idea if it would actually work, but he did indeed avoid military service (never got any call up anyway).

EDIT There are good answers to this question in this thread so I'll close this one.
