hi

apologies if this sounds stupid, but I don't know how it works in Thailand,

me and my wife to be took out a truemove 6 month contract for wireless internet, at the time, she wasn't with me (its what we agreed on) but they still did it all on my passport bizarrely (it was only on a 30 day visa) anyway, i've now returned back to the UK for a 6 months and she normally pays it off every month.

fast forward to today when she went to cancel it after 7 months, she was told that we had missed 4 payments (yeh we stopped using it) ok its only about 700 baht a month but still, I don't like outstanding debt like that.

she's sorting out paying it off etc etc but as they took my passport details, will there be any come back on me at all? i mean if she doesnt pay it for some reason (I'm hoping she does! smile.png) or she doesnt pay it back quickly it wont cause massive problems, surely?

life would be so much easier if they took non thai credit cards, meh.....

any advice is gratefully appreciated!

If you are paying it, then there will be no comeback.

On your PP details did you sign the copy of the PP supplied or the contract ?......if no then they have no recourse to you anyway...the problem is your GF's if its her name only on the contract, if you signed the contract in conjunction with the GF or passport copies....then you could be liable for payment if she doesnt pay

It obviously depends on how much you trust your wife, but if you don't feel comfortable even after she tells you that she has made the payment (she should be able to show you a receipt for that) or you fear that there may be some other amount outstanding, you can always check directly with true, to see if all bills on that contract (you need the contract/customer number) are paid up to date.

Even if you had some unpaid bill it wouldn't come back to you in any serious way but, as you yourself seem to think, much better to keep everything clean here.

Nothing will happen overnight, so don't lose any sleep on it, just make sure that things are fine whenever you can.

I signed it, she wasn't there, its totally in my name, i get that i'm liable so what happens next? i just wanna pay my way and be done with it without any problems, i read someone you aren't allowed any outstanding debt in thailand & its a crime, is that the case? i know this is about 2500 baht but you know what i mean...

first off....you are liable for the debt, debt in Thailand isnt a crime its a civil matter, they will only persue via a civil judgement...same as the UK....if you stay out of Thailand long enough it will be written off.

I mention this before some kn*bhead jumps in and says your comitting fraud, your going to jail, deported, hung, draw and quarted, blacklisted from visting Thailand again etc which is obviously all BS.

The simplest solution is to contact them, explain the situation and ask how this can be resolved, you are overseas...realise this hasnt been paid and want to sort it out...sure they will come up with a solution for you very quickly...failing that do you know anyone in Thailand who could pay it for you and reimbursh them...its not really a great deal of money
