I am in London and my O visa runs out on 15th Feb and wanted to convert to O-A visa but the police form I need in the UK has got lost and a replacement will take 40 more days at least. Can I get O-A visa in Bangkok without this form & if I come back before 15th can I get a 90 day extension?

If you have a multi entry non immigrant O visa that is valid when you return you will get a new 90 day stay and can convert to retirement extension of stay during the last 30 days without need of police report or medical.

I am no expert on this, but when you left Thailand (with a bit of your O visa still running) did you need to get/should you have got (?) a multi-entry or single re-entry permit OR does a 90 day O-visa mean that you can re-enter as much as you like? Could you go to Cambodia every day and play the casinos? Having left the country for 2 weeks, is your O visa still valid on your return?

I am merely playing Devil's Advocate. I am not sure of the answers. However, if there is any query about your visa when you arrive back, you COULD automatically be given a 30-day basic tourist visa, so that you will be starting the clock again with regard to your quest for retirement extension. I am hoping for good news for you, although some things are not always clear in the LOS.

If you currently have a multi entry non immigrant O visa that expires on February 15th you will receive a normal 90 day stay on entry before that date and after 60 days can apply at immigration for the one year retirement extension of stay. The 90 days is a normal non immigrant visa entry - not an extension.

Thanks Lopburi. Richard is a personal friend, and I am just trying to clarify things. I myself am ignorant of the rules because I have been on Ret.Extn for 4 years.

If he has a Non-Imm 0, is that automatically a multi-entry?

In that case, will he be given an automatic 90 day stay (like a back-to-back) when he arrives here next week or does he need to ask for it? Or does he have to sort out the new 90 day at the Thai Embassy in London before he flies? I suspect the former, but I am trying to clear up any margin for error.

Thanks

There are both single entry and multi entry. If single entry and not yet used he will be the same 90 days as a multi which is still valid but if used he would not be able to use it. He should be stamped for 90 days but always best to check before leaving counter to make sure as stamps can be made in error.
