Hi guys,

I am Dutch, in Chiang Mai on a double-entry tourist visa. Have used up both entries now. On February 20, I will go to Immigration and get my last 30-day extension. This will get me to March 20. I fly back to Holland on March 29.

Would it be at all possible to get nine days extra at immigration in Chiang Mai? I'd be willing to pay extra. Because I do NOT want to have to do a visa run to Mae Sai and spend a whole day and 1200 baht, just for nine extra days.

Anyone have any clever ideas?

Thanks!

No it is not possible to obtain a 9 day extension for tourist reasons. A border crossing for a visa exempt 15 day entry is your best option.

Not without a ticket out within those 7 days (if they decide to check) and paying overstay is not a good option. A simple border trip makes much more sense.

he could wait 2 days then goto them and he'd have a flight with in the next 7 days,

total 2900 baht to pay.

To overstay is never a god idea, it's stupid.

Can he not get an extra 7 days 1,900 baht and pay 1 or 2 days overstay?

NO as he has already an 30 day extension on his tourist visa.

Visa run is the only option.

Don't overstay as this can create real problems for you if you are caught during your overstay period.

Also try to avoid to do the visarun ( by an visa run company ) during your overstay as many minibuses are stopped by police to check out the passport for possible overstay's.

They know that those visa run buses are a easy target for overstay people.

I think even in that case the 7 days would start to count from the day his visa expired,so pay 2 days overstay end get another 5 days for 1900 Baht.

No not correct.

When you try to do the 7 days extension while you have already have 2 day overstay you pay 1000 baht ( 2 x 500 ) for the overstay and 1900 Baht on top for the 7 day extension.

This is done at Phuket immigration but this is not guaranteed for all immigration offices.

why advise to do it the wrong way, when the correct way is to do a border run. i wonder if the OP extended his first 60 day stamp.

then why not choose to skip visas altogether, and pay the 20,000baht, no border runs, and no trips to immigration. All too many times on here people try to circumvent the system that is in place, the legal way to stay in Thailand is to get the correct visa before the trip, not try and fiddle the system when here.

Why risk a stay in an immigration detention centre. it is illegal to stay in Thailand without the correct permission to stay stamp, why are some posters encouraging people to break the law.

he's only a holiday maker with a flight home who has made a mistake with the visa dates.

it's obvious he's going to goto burma anyway and pay them 500 baht.

but if he was i'll or something and unable to travel then the emergency 7 day extension is there for people.

Just do a 15day borderrun.

The 7day emergency extension is available, but the addl 2day overstay is not a good idea.

7 day's emergency extensions are not given on a tourist visa, you can apply for the "normal" 30 day's extension one time on each entry.

After this 30 day's extension you have to leave the country simple as that.

Immigration will normally provide a 7 day time to leave the country on any entry if you provide proof of outgoing flight and fill out a TM.7/pay the fee requesting an extension of stay (which is not approved but allows 7 day stay).

Not in Phuket, They will grant the normal extensions ( 30 day on a TR60, 7 day on an VOA etc ) and 7 day emergency extension when you have an Non-O ( 90 day ).

But after the first extension they don't provide any more extensions and you have to leave the country. ( except medical or other special extensions )

so what if your visa has finished and your on overstay ?

can you goto immigration pay the overstay without going to prison ?

surely they would have to grant you some permission to stay so you can goto a border etc ?

You should not go to immigration to pay the overstay, you should pay it at the border when you exit!

They will advise you to go the airport ( or other border crossing ) to pay for your overstay fine before you leave the country.

When you already have the extension and overstay after this, Phuket immigration don't give you extra extension if you pay the overstay fine at the immigration office.

So if you do this you have to leave the country the same day.
