Just had my passport renewed and got a new visa in my new passport. Not an extension, as my old visa was dated to expire with my passport. Went to Wattana and got a 5 years visa (here on a SE-visa). No drama, but when I went to my local immigration for my 90 days, they demanded to see even my old passport and was told they wanted to do so even in the future.

I have not been out of Thailand for 8 years, so my entrystamp is ofcourse in the old passport, so I guess the only way for immigration to check that my arrivalcard matches the entrystamp is to look in the old passport. My question is: Posible to move the entrystamp to the new passport, so I don't have to live with two passports for the next ten years ?

In my new passport they put a small rectangular stamp with the details of my original entry into Thailand, next to that is my last entry into Thailand. Think a visit to the Immigration office is in order, so you can get this stamp transferred, then no carrying two passports around.

Your entry details are transferred to a new passport, but any valid visa itself not. To keep using a valid visa you must use the old passport in combination with the new one.

Don't know about SE-visa.

Does that mean if on extensions of stay, the original say "O" Visa which was used as a basis for the extensions and still in a former passport always needs to be shown?

I thought that with a new passport and stamp info transferred into it, your need to carry the former passport ceases.

I could be reading this the wrong way!

i.e. Is the visa used as a basis for extensions of stay valid or is it only used as the initial reference and when it's validity in time has finished, it's of no use?

Only a multi entry visa in old passport would need to be shown for a new entry. Once information is transferred into new passport for an extension of stay that is the only passport you need.
