Unlimited Talk And Text

I’m moving to Thailand next month and want a similar phone plan to what I have in Australia presently: unlimited talk and text and some internet data. I only pay $39 (AUD) per month with Amaysim. I have an iphone which I will be bringing with me.

My work visa is only for 3 months so I can’t take out a long contract. I heard cell phone options are not as cheap as you would expect in Thailand. Does anyone know of an unlimited talk and text pre-paid monthly deal or anything like that? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.

There are no unlimited text and talk plans here.

Is your iPhone unlocked? Which version do you have?

Typically you would buy a pre-paid SIM from One-2-Call (AIS), DTAC (Happy) or TrueMove (H), activate the SIM, choose a calling plan, add value to the SIM and then pay some per minute/per SMS charge which reduces your balance. There hare dozens if not hundreds of promotions at any one time, some of which offer reduced calling /text rates at specific times, to specific phones.

You can layer a data plan onto pretty much any SIM.

Net-net, expect to pay 1 baht/min and 1 baht/SMS, if only for budgeting purposes.

At A$39 a month, that's ~1,200 baht. I am guessing, but your current provider in Aus is 'unlimited' but I bet that is only national (fixed and mobile) calls and has no international component whatsoever.

So, if comparing apples with apples, I think that your current budget would go a very, very long way if only making 'national' calls (mobile or fixed) whilst in Thailand. For international, dialing 00500 before the country code gets you VoIP with AIS at bloody super good rates and the quality is fine.

Unlock your phone, grab 1-2-call from AIS. Other post has approximate rates and you can see from that you will be hard pushed to blow the budget. As for data, from A$3 a month upwards.
