Doing 90 Day Report And Transferring Visa From Old Passport To New

Featured Replies

I've got an Education Visa (single entry) which am I due soon to do my first 90 days reporting for at Cheang Watnaa in Bangkok.

I've also just got a new passport so would like to transfer that Education Visa into the new passport.

Regarding the transfer of the visa:

1) Can it be done in one day?

2) Should I do it before, after or at the same time as I do my 90 day report for the extension?

Also I need to get a re-entry permit/stamp so I can leave the country and then come back in on the Education Visa. How close to the travel date does it have to be when I apply for that?

Thanks!

Should only take a few minutes but visa is not transferred - only the information and current stay. Once that is done the actual extension of stay can be entered. There should not be any 90 day address report for a first extension of stay - just the TM.7 extension with school paperwork. The TM.7 counts as a first address report in such a case.

Or do you actually have a one year extension of stay from Immigration for education? That is not a visa - a visa would only allow a 90 day stay. If extension and you doing 90 day address reports you should do the transfer and then the report.

I have just the 90 days. The date the visa sticker says it is valid until is 90 days from when I got it. I assume that once I go to immigration I will get another 90 days.

Is that what you mean?

Does that affect the changing of passports mid visa?

Your visa has been used - it is no longer valid. You have until the date permitted to stay to exit Thailand or obtain an extension of stay. You obtain an extension of stay with required paperwork from school, TM.7 form and paying 1,900 baht to Immigration. In the process of doing that they would have to transfer your current permitted to stay stamp and make several other stamps of visa information/previous passport information. But that old visa became used the moment you entered Thailand for your current 90 day stay.

Thanks. Then I need to get that extension of stay. I have the paper work from the school. So I just turn up, present both passports and the extension of stay paper work and they will put the details in the new passport?

Thanks.

Believe they will also have you fill out a form and require extra copies of both passports.

Thanks. I have filled in the TM 7 form and the form for transfering a visa from one passport to the other and made 1 copy of both passports (all pages with info on them).

When I go to a window/officer should I give the transfer of visa form first and then do the extention of stay at the same window?

Thanks.

If using Bangkok Immigraiton, you will have to line up for different sections. First for transfer to new passport, then for the extension and then for the re-entry permit.

Thanks. I think I will get the re-entry permit from Sathorn nearer the time of travel.
