First Car Owners Govt Rebate For A Thai Person

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how this rebate is worked out, is it a percentage of the purchase

price, if so what percentage and how long will it be available

It's not a percentage of the purchase price, but rather a percentage of the wholesale price ;)

All cars sold in Thailand are liable to pay an excise tax (info on taxes here) - the first car buyer's program offers up to 100,000 Baht rebate on the excise tax value, after one year of ownership, with these basic rules:

  • Purchaser must be a Thai national, and over 18 years old
  • Purchaser must have never had a car or truck registered in their name
  • Purchaser must agree to waive their rights to sell the car for 5 years
  • The car must be:
    • Made in Thailand
    • A pickup truck, or a passenger car with an engine less than or equal to 1.5L
    • Have a sticker price less than 1M Baht
    • Be purchased before Oct 30, 2012

Hi Moon River

Are you sure that a Thai national can qualify for this scheme if they are 18 or over.I thought they had to be 21

You are of course correct - thanks for fixing my mistake smile.png

And I should also point out that according to the latest version of the rules, the cut-off date for the program is 31 December 2012. I'm not sure if this has changed recently, or whether my memory is just failing me though sad.png

Info (in Thai) here:

Edit: It would appear from the filename of the linked PDF, that the rules were amended on 24 Feb 2012..
