Visa For Children Re Entering Thailand.

Featured Replies

I am a Brish Citizen staying in Thailand on a type O one year visa, my children both hold UK passports but do not have Visas, I was told by the local immigration official that children do not need one. That's fine as I understand no overstay for minors etc..

My worry is in a few weeks we will be going to England to visit relatives, no problem for me re entering Thailand, but will my children be required to have a visa or proof on onward travel out of Thailand? Can't seem to find any definitive answer online, hoping someone can give a bit of guidance.

Thanks in advance

M.

Yes your children do require visa or visa exempt entry (and visa exempt entry requires onward travel within 30 days which airline may check). It is only once in Thailand that the no fine for overstay rule for those under 15 is helpful.

So this is the second time they have overstayed, are you suggesting that Immigration will fine them this time or can they overstay multiple times?

I think my only option is to purchase a cheap air asia flight prior to departure for my children, then when re entering Thailand we would have proof of onward travel, does this work in practice?

Thanks

No I was not saying the will be fined this time - that was 'once in Thailand' meaning after in Thailand not one time - sorry.

There will not be any problem with immigration - it is the airline on a long haul flight that may require the ticket. You can wait until boarding and see (buy if required) or perhaps cheaper than a ticket would be a tourist visa at about 1,000 baht each.

the other alternative surely would be to simply get the children non-O visa's when they are out of the country and they can be extended on the same basis as the OP?

Thanks for the replies, all this messing around I have to do, and I wanted to get type O for them when I got mine but the Immigration officer said they didn't need one. I forgot to mention in earlier posts. that we are only there for 10 days, so risky to rely on Royal mail if we apply to the Hull consulate, and a trip to the Embassy is not an easy option ( have had problems there with their extremely poor service ). Looks like a Nok air ticket, just need to check what the refund options.
