Opposition to lodge censure motion againt government

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's opposition, led by the Democrat Party, will lodge a censure motion against the government after the House of Representatives reconvenes in March.

Democrat Party Spokesman Ongart Klampaiboon told journalists here on Monday that the leading opposition party has sufficient information to lodge the new no confidence motion against the government.

"The constitution allows the opposition to lodge a censure motion against the government or individual cabinet members only between March-June; so we have to do that during the period," he said.

Mr. Ongart dismissed a government allegation that the opposition's planned censure motion is a seasonal practice, saying the government itself had allowed corruption to take place every season.

"The government should review why alleged corruption has been found every season, and should also review its anti-corruption efficiency. If the government can address the graft problem well, the opposition won't have to lodge any censure motion against the administration," he stressed.

"Mr. Ongart cited as an exemple the opposition's previous censure motion against individual ministers over a scandal on a Transport Ministry procurement of CTX 9000 bomb scanners for Bangkok's new Suvarnabhumi Airport concerning alleged corruption of the ministry's offiicals, which led to a cabinet reshuffle to 'change' the then transport minister.

UPDATE

The censure debate of this thread never occured when Thaksin dissolved Parliament in order to avoid having to answer questions, but now this same ex-governement TRT, in the guise of PTV, wants to hold a censure debate, even a pseudo-one, on the current government???? :o:D

-------------

Regarding the PTV rally in Sanam Luang:

PTV executive Jatuporn Phormpan said his group would reveal evidence of corruption involving figures in the junta in projects at Suvarnabhumi Airport and in weapons purchases by the Army.

"It will be like a censure debate, in which the Council for National Security and the government need to clarify the allegations for the public," Jatuporn added.
