george
Thailand, Russia sign visa exemption pact KUALA LUMPUR: -- Thai and Russian leaders gave final approval on Tuesday to a visa exemption accord as part of efforts to promote tourism, trade and communication between the two countries. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra signed the pact during direct talks on Tuesday night after the ASEAN-Russia summit in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur. President Putin said that the accord would help boost trade and tourism between the two countries, expressing the hope that the number of Russians visiting Thailand would increase sharply from the current 100,000 level. Prime Minister Thaksin said that tourism accounts for the lion's share of bilateral trade which was rising rapidly to near the level before the 1991 collapse of the USSR. Under the visa exemption agreement, Thais and Russians with valid travel documents will be allowed to stay in the each other's country for up to 30 days. However, government agencies concerned reserved the right to deny the entry or stay of signatory state nationals on security or public health grounds. The agreement will take effect within 30 days of each signatory state notifying the other that the draft agreement has passed all necessary internal procedures. At present, Thais going to Russia must apply for a visa before departure, while Russians can apply for visa on arrival. Moscow allows visa exemptions only for diplomatic passports. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, 117,725 Russians visited Thailand last year, with arrivals expected to rise to 140,000 this year, up 18 per cent from 2004. The number of Thai visitors to Russia last year rose more than 28 per cent to 2,910, up from 2,266 in 2003. --TNA 2005-12-

lopburi3
You can currently obtain a 15 day visa on arrival. As for February you will have to check later as the new agreement has to go through normal approval process and then a date has to be set for it to become active. Your airline should have the latest information.

You have to spread it to make the little things grow”. Attributed – rightly or wrongly – to Barbara Streisand. I have no objection at all if some of that Russian money is spread in Thailand.
