Wildlife Rescue / Rehab

Hi Everyone

Please assist if possible. I have a squirrel - not a baby but definately a juvenille - that i rescued from a disgusting petshop on the way home yesterday. Yeah i know, i know they'll just buy another one and sell it too - but I couldn't walk past and do nothing. Anyway, I tried to release him today but he kept dashing back into the cage. So I guess he needs specialised rehab treatment to help him along.

Anyone know of a wildlife sanctuary or rescue organisation in Pattaya or even outside of Pattaya but not too much of a drive away?

Appreciated

Haley

Haley, I suggest that you leave the cage outside, with the door open, and no food or water in it; and place some food (shelled peanuts should work, along with small pieces of bread or some bird seed) and water at intervals of 6 feet, then 10 feet, then 15 feet, toward a wooded area, he'll eventually discover and choose freedom.

i live out near the lake not on an estate. i have wild squirrels living in a big tree near the house.

They visit the house regularly to steal the dogs food. you can release it here if you wanted to......

Hope this doesn't offend anyone. But I'd like to bring this briefly back to the top in hopes that hiyjsn sees it & corresponds with timekeeper.

Squirrel rehabilitation workers would be few and far between in Pattaya, and the shop will indeed just catch another squirrel and offer it for sale. If the OP is going to live here he needs to develop a thicker skin when it comes to the local attitude on animal welfare.

I rehabilitated an injured squirrel at one point, once it was all better I let it go in the backyard where there were plenty other squirrels living. At first he tried to get back in the house and just stuck around the backyard looking through the window, but later on in the day he was gone and we never saw him again. Hopefully he was able to survive and wasn't just eaten by a cat or a dog.
