PHUKET: -- Five medical students on holiday in Phuket escaped with minor injuries when the car they were traveling in struck a tree in Phang Nga yesterday.

Lt Eakkapop Phuthong of Takua Thung Police received a report at 5:30pm that a vehicle had overshot a curve on Takua Thung Road at Baan Kuan, Kok Kloy.

“Sidan Hayeesamadae, a 25-year-old male, was driving four female passengers, Jirana Lertmanaschai, 24, Dussadee Nakthong, 25, Anchareena Yamin, 24 and Royharn Waesani, 24, back to Haad Yai when the accident happened,” said Lt Eakkapop.

All five are medical students in their sixth year at Prince of Songkla University in Haad Yai.

“They were in Phuket for a weekend break and returning to Haad Yai when Mr Sidan lost control of the vehicle on a bend and hit a tree on the median strip,” Lt Eakkapop added.

Dr Adikiet Iamworaniran, Director of Phang Nga Hospital, said that all five medical students would be released today and transported back to Prince Songkla University.
