Why Do Most Female Expats Dress Like Hippies.

Walking or driving around bangkok daily i tend to see many female farangs. Usually walking alone and in areas that tourists dont go. This is why i think they are usually expats. Married to a thai man or teacher etc.

Anyway i am yet to see a female dressed as they do in there own country. To be honest it seems they just let themselves go. No make up and hippy type clothes.

For me it would be nice to see a few more western women walking around looking smart as they do usually in the west.

So why is it female expats dress like hippes and throw away their make up bag when they arrive in thailand?

Do Russians qualify as farangs? If so, most of the ones I see are dressed like porn stars and hookers, not complaining though. I see a lot of brit and ozzie type women doing the hippie thing, I think they watched "The Beach" too many times.

I'm not an expat but I'm a student here and I don't live in a "Farang area"

I typically wear the university uniform, or wear short skirts or dresses (not hooker style tho), I never wear pants here because it's too hot..I wear some of the thai fashions/dresses but I always wear shorts underneath because I'm kind of tall compared to Thai girls

On my days off I don't really wear make-up just put on some sunglasses and wear shorts and a tshirt...and I've gotten in to the habit of wearing a sweater all the time to be polite..

as tempting as it is to lounge around in a food stained vest ,boxer shorts and flip flops i do sometimes make an effort to wear a clean shirt and jeans and shoes

but not every day though ,that would be just ridiculous :)

Us bald, fat old gits never seem to worry if we wobble and jiggle as we walk and that is just our beer guts, never mind our sexy man boobs bouncing about beneath our T-shirts. The only real reason we don't dress like hippies is because our hair is too short (non-existant). :P

Your brave walking around like that. Are you not worried about people seeing your vertigo smile or do you mean pants as in trousers.

what a festival of misogynistic ignorance.

Threads like this really do show how many bitter, camel-trophy-clad souls on this board have a failed marriage back home under their belts.

to the contrary i cannot leave the house without seeing a western woman i wouldn't mind getting to know better. horses for courses i suppose.

What do you mean by dressed like in the west, everything here is mega size. Thank god I brought my jeans with me to UK as the smallest size here seems to be too big. 28" jeans are proving really hard to find. On the bright side though I can wear my wellies. But you won't find me wearing those in Thailand.

the western woman clothing issue is a RACE issue...western women in hot climates are genetically indisposed to wearing stylish, tight fitting clothing like their local counterparts and have no choice but to wear loose fitting cotton attire like the ladies from the 'Incredible String Band' many years ago or to appear slatternly sweating in shorts and tank tops...

many years ago in Nicaragua tutsi was faced with a choice between a progressive internacionalista US woman in a flowing cotton dress and a local mamacita in tight jeans that showed off her stuff...tutsi chose the latter saying: 'hey there mamacita, I got some dough, let's me an' you go have a party...'...later tutsi was threatened with immigration violations and prison and had to quickly leave the country...my choice was not politically correct in sandinista Nicaragua...sad.png

thai women have the body at 28 yo that western women havent had since they were 16-18yo

they couldnt wear most of the hot pants and short shorts thats on sale here anyway

because of the size differnce

thai woman can pick a new outfit in 2 minutes at any stall

farangs are probably stuck with rent-a-tent style gear so they have to go for the washed out ,frumpy ,baggy hippy kinda look.....
