bkkmadness Posted December 17, 2005 Share Posted December 17, 2005 I always thought of this forum kinda like a local pub, albeit a big one, with the admin being the landlord and the mods being the bouncers. When you first step into the local you got th groups in their respective corners and it can be awkward to fit in, but after a time if you're a friendly enough chap then you soon either join one group or mingle with the lot of them all at different levels. If you act like an idiot then of course the locals don't want you there and eventually you are 'pressured' to leave. There is the flipside of this which is what I hate and that is there are a lot of people in this local pub that don't like the intrusions of outsiders (remember the Slaughtered Lamb in American Werewolf?) and these are the types that have a go at new posters just for the sake of it, and many have either stayed and dealt with it, or left, which is a shame coz I think all newbies should be welcomed. Sometimes the mods and admin do seem a bit slow in dealing with some of the attacks on new posters or join in which shouldn't be encouraged, but that is the way it is, human nature I suppose. At the end of the day theres not many alternatives to this foum for Thailand so the ones that don't like it have to either get on with it or try to find a better local. I think everyone on here, especially some of the older posters that are in these 'cliques' could make a better effort to encourage newbie posters to stick around although by and large this is a very friendly forum, as long as you act with a bit of common sense, politeness and decency. I can't even remember what I said let alone remember what you had replied. All I can vividly recollect was the unusually cruel and harsh flaming, and the ensuing pain which caused deep and profound scarring upon my grey matter, but given time (and some extremely expensive professional care!) has since healed significantly, and then, thankfully, a subsequent and quite recent cyber hug by an ugly little feathered friend which compassionately delivered me to full recovery! Its not just here but I would rather just read here and be informed than risk posting and feeling like I don't want to use the site again.I kind of regret starting this thread but I just felt it was necessary to see what other people thought or if it was just me. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I haven't read alkl the posts on here, but I would like to say, good to have you posting and sharing a bit yourself. I would like to think I don't bash people, unless I feel they deserve it. Even then, it's mostly in jest. When the few times I have overreacted, or been wrong, I think I've always apologised / I think intsintively back to the day I posted a poll berating TMerton, and it was a bit off hand.
