jrc1 Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 I will be in Pattaya next year for a few days with a couple of friends, I was looking at hiring a car and driver for the day to have a good look around the place. Does anyone know if you can hire a Baht bus for the day and an approximate cost of how much it would be for the day ? If anyone has a Point of Contact it would also be appreciated. Regards John

Does anyone know if you can hire a Baht bus for the day and an approximate cost of how much it would be for the day ? Each driver rents a baht bus from the Baht Bus Consortium for about 450 - 500 baht per day. The baht bus is filled with diesel for about 1,000 baht but, obviously, not all of this fuel is used in the 24 hours. So, the basic cost of the baht bus will be 500 baht with, say 250 - 500 baht for the fuel. The driver will want to recoup his costs and then add his time. At the most, probably 1,300 baht for a whole day's rent (24 hours). That's not bad split between three of you. It's all negotiable of course and any passing empty baht bus driver would be prepared to negotiate. I have done this before and arranged for a friendly baht bus driver to meet me the following morning. Those people who want to say that " a friendly baht bus driver" is a contradiction in terms then grow up. Most of the drivers are polite, cooperative and friendly. I do accept that there are some "rogues".

poppa Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 artisian , for 1,300 baht a day its a wonder the whole 700 baht bus drivers dident turn up , in fact iam surprised that the local bank manage dident turn up , thinking about it its probley poeple like you who are causing all the traffic jams in Pattaya , 1,300 baht a day , are you thai by any chance
poppa Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 for 800 baht you can get a taxi to bangkok and would you belive it the guy has to turn aroud and go back home , takes him all day
Artisan Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 What's up with you Poppa old bean, not so good on the logic and mathematics fronts are you? ...and as far as your english skills illiterate to a fault. Why don't you try RENTING a car, filling it with fuel and driving some people around Thailand for a whole day....would you still charge the customers a measly 1,300 baht for all of this? Two hours to BKK, two hours back to Pattaya and add an hour for the turn around (generous) doesn't constitute a whole day...or should I say "dosent"? Some questions: 1. What's the Bank Manager got to do with it all? 2. How does your thinking put the blame for the traffic problem in Pattaya on me? 3. I might be Thai but, then again, I might not be. What's the relevance in that? 3. Are you stoned......by any chance?

My estimate was what I paid for "commisioning" a baht bus driver almost 5 years ago and today's price would certainly be upwards of that. It was great value as the driver met me at 07.00 and returned me to my home at 02.30 the next morning.

Cheers
barryofthailand Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 I have a Thai freind that lives two blocks from my house. He owns a baht bus, you can either ride in front with air or in the back. Anyway, he operate3s by either word of mouth, or by telephone. He charges about 1000 baht per day depending where you want to go. Very reliable. If and when interested PM me. Barry

Cheers <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Probably because a rented car and a driver for 24 hours would cost much more than you think, OR I can't drive, or I don't possess a driving licence, or I'm unfamiliar with the area, or I'm worried about driving on a different side of the road, or I'm even worried about driving in Thailand, or I think it would be safer and more worthwhile if a Thai driver drove me around, or I'm disabled, or I'm plain lazy or... or... or......... There can be many reasons why he/she wants to rent a baht bus.
