Hi,

I bought my new Sony Laptop here in Chiang Mai.

I am going home to visit America in July/August and I need to take my laptop with me.

The plug on the cord of the battery charger for my laptop has 2 post that are round (cylindrical) and unlike anything we use in America.

What can I do so that I can use my laptop in America?

Thank You Kindly

Joe

Look on the adapter and see what input voltage it requires. Most likely it is dual voltage and will say on it that you can using 110V to 240V. If so, then all you need is a cheap adapter to convert your plug from round tips to flat ones.

I haven't seen a laptop power supply in years, that isn't "universal" - most of them are rated 90/100 to 240/250V. But do have a quick check, on the very slim offchance that yours isn't.

As for plugging it in over there - I've seen adapters here in many shops/supermarkets that go from flat pin (i.e. same as US) to round... I'm using a number of them here, I had the opposite problem (most of my gear has UK/Europe power cords).

They might want to check if you are using illegal software/operating system. They are getting stricter on software piracy.

Not as strict as they are on pictures of children. (any children).

Unless you're bringing whole pirated install media I wouldn't worry to much on if your copy of Excel is activated or not.

The "Feds". U.S. Police in American Airports. They are the nosiest and most irritating bunch of U.S. workers you are likely to encounter anywhere.

Surely, they have more important things to look for, other than some guy who might have a fake Windows 7 on his laptop?....................Maybe not. sad.png I've been through US airports and I agree with your assessment of them, but no one's ever decided to open my laptop to see if I have links to Al Qaeda (thankfully).........no, no not the AQ thing, the other thingy's!

It all got much worse under Obama. All common sense is going out the window.

Remember the video recently of a 6 year old boy in a wheelchair (broken leg), undergoing terrifying treatment by a creepy TSA minion? That's the future.

Maybe they learned their lessons from Pearl Harbor, 9/11 etc. rolleyes.gif

Somethings wrong with TSA, they need an attitude check. So do Delta flight attendants.

Don't travel much do ya. My best advice is to hit a local hard ware store, typically there'll be packes with adaptors. Get one that contains "prongs" for multiple countries. I usually carry about 3 different ones in my luggage! Also buy multiple ones, don't forget, Ipad, Ipod, etc will need to be recharge as well.

It's easier to buy them here than in the US. Don't know why but I had the hardest time finding adaptors last time I went.

They only sell them in "travel shops" or once in a while you might find them at a place like Office Depot in the travel section for about 500% more than it would cost here.

actually, i am in usa now and see adapters in walgreens, cvs, rite-aid... unless they are a very small shop, any large "drug store" sells them.
