Without access to the articles in the magazines and books that are quoted as references, it's impossible to judge the accuracy of those figures. How were the statistics compiled and what were the sample sizes etcetera? I seriously doubt that the majority of Thai men had their first sexual encounter with a prostitute and that 95% of them have had sex with one at some point in their life.

the numbers do seem a bit high ,but if you scroll down about a 1/3rd down the page it gives the explaination behind them

and thai men kind use it a right of passage when going from high schol to university ........

That doesn't really explain the high figure - what percentage of Thai males went to university in 1992 (or earlier)?

I think you'll find they look down on Westerners who marry prostitutes or take them out to dinner as if they were their girlfriend, not those who use them as a service. No hypocrisy there as far as I can see, just idiocy or desperation on the part of many foreigners.

There is at least one poster on Thai Visa who can "get it for Free" because he's young, handsome, fit and the girls are sick of the old, sweaty fat buffalos.... So, no money involved, does that count ?

What they look down on is not the use of prostitutes, but making girlfriends and wives out of them and parading around with them in broad daylight.

Get it for free with prostitutes? How wonderful. I'm sure many posters don't have to pay for sex (in the commercial sense, before the usual crowd shouting "everybody pays for it" emerges) with ordinary girls.

it said high school or university ritual that involves spending time sharing food ,drinks and getting nailed by hookers

some of the young thai guys ive met look like theyde be terrified of a firebreathing whore but who knows .........
