What Is A Strawberry ?

Featured Replies

Another case a English word being used in Thai Eng-Rish.

It was used a a bad word about some one, I was told it means, 'lying bitch'.

Maybe this is a double lost on translation !!!

Any know in better words?giggle.gif

สตรอเบอรี่ sà~dtrɔɔ-bəə-rîi

Not aware that it can be used in a negative context.

<p>I don't know where the 'bitch' in the translation comes from - maybe a Thai person who has listened too much to hip hop or something?

The general sense of 'liar', 'fibber' or 'faker' is correct. Personally I have only ever heard it used jokingly.

It's a cute/joking way of saying ตอแหล which is considered to rude .

Yep, "strawberry" is avoidance slang for ตอแหล [bullshit], because it incorporates the first syllable of the word. It's often used in a shortened form as สะตอ, too. These avoidance versions are a bit softer, but have just as much potential to cause insult, if you aren't careful to use it with close friends only.

definitely has a negative connotation. have heard my neighbors using it to describe a selfish - bit** in the neighborhood.

fight back - say the person is actually 'pen sap-pa-rot' (pineapple). Unless i'm grossly mistaken (and not for the first time...) it means sweet-natured, with erotic implications... AA

I don't like the woman either , and certainly wouldnt' refer to her as erotic!

I had it explained to me by a Thai person as somebody who appears sweet on the outside, but is actually "sour". Made sense to me.

Teenager slang for "liar".
