I have a one year multi entry Non Imm B visa and a work permit, the visa is valid until 22nd December 2012.

When i flew back into thailand on 5th January 2012 I was given an entry stamp until 3rd April (tomorrow) so tomorrow I have to visit Immigration to get another 90 days.

What do I need to take with me? Do I need to take the company paperwork or just pictures, photocopies of visa and passport and some money?

Thank you

Quick answer before the experts arrive and give you fuller details.

If you want another 90 days from your multiple entry visa you have to LEAVE the country and then re-enter.

By land or air will suffice.

If you want an extension of stay you and your employer should have been preparing the paper work some time before this.

Really? just cross the border then come back in? crap, I only have one page left in my passport.

I thought the purpose of a one year visa is that I don't have to leave the country, or I guess i don't have to leave providing I provide the company accounts etc.

Is it really classed as an extension as I am not really extending as I have a visa until Dec 2012?

thanks Ginkas

You have to cross the border and come back in tomorrow.

If you qualify for a 1 year extension of stay, you can apply for a 1 year extension of stay at immigration. But will need all the correct paperwork from your employer and yourself.

You have a multi entry, if you had a single entry you would not have to leave Thailand.

Before your visa runs out, get the company paperwork together and visit Immigration, do it a couple of weeks before, so that if there are any problems they can be resolved in time.

Thanks everyone, we are trying to get the paperwork together now for immigration tomorrow.

If worst comes to the worst i guess i can get one week extension which gives me time to either get the paperwork together or leave and re enter. If they don't do the one week extension then I guess I need to jump on a plane tomorrow afternoon somewhere.

thanks everyone

Why not do a border run, then you have a further 90days in which to get the paperwork done properly and not in a rush.

The company requires all tax payments for all foreign staff and a lorry load of other paperwork, use the time to get it done properly first time.

You can buy a 1 month extension at immigration for 1,900bht.

WRONG!

Only a tourist visa can be extended by 1 month.

If he has a Thai wife, he could get a 60 day extension. But oherwise 7 days is the only thing he can get.

And if he gets it wrong at Immigration with his company he gets 7 days, which would be around the holiday period, which might be a bit more difficult, I would do a border run and let the company get the paperwork together, they have long enough to do it.

"I thought the purpose of a one year visa is that I don't have to leave the country"

Sorry, no.

The purpose of a one year multiple entry non-immigrant B visa is that you can come and go as often as you like in that one year.

Each arrival allows you to stay in the country for a maximum of 90 days.

An extension of stay (not a visa) from immigration allows you to stay in the country for one year, making 90 day reports to immigration.

If, however, you wish to leave the country you would have to get a re-entry permit from immigration to keep the extension of stay valid.

The extension of stay for one year requires your employer to provide quite a bit of paperwork so they usually need a week or two to get it all together.

One page left in your passport could give you problems, whether you leave the country or not!

Thanks for all the help guys, it seems via our accountant that we have all the paperwork together for my trip to immigration tomorrow. we are a small company and as luck would have it the accountant is up to date with everything.

i am trying to avoid doing a border run untl I have new passport, like an idiot I forgot to apply for one and have two pages left (I found another at the back).

And like I say if worst comes to the worst I think i will do a border run after immigration tomorrow to avoid the holiday period next week. An afternoon flight from don mueang to udon then cross at nong khai, then back again in time for the last flight.

Does anyone know the cost of a laos voa?

thanks for all your help guys, you have been great.

Regarding 60 day day extension in you are married to a Thai (with wp on multi entry ) Is there a lot of paperwork needed aside from marriage cert ? Has anyone tried this in Pattaya immigration?

thanks

Not a lot. Proof of marriage (marriage certificate), wife, her ID-card, the household registration and maybe a few things more. Always best to call in advance to see what they want to see.

No proof of financials is required and the extension is given on the spot. In Jomtiem that might mean next days.

Fly to Malaysia as it's only 4 small stamps, which can fit in anywhere and no there no visa required for most nationalities..

Good luck with the 2.1 extension as it will be nothing short of a miracle if you can get it done in one day (or even before next Thursday if you get the 7 day extension).

Another problem you may have is that the 7 day extension plus one year extension/awaiting approval stamp together will require more than one page in your passport!

Thanks Mario,

Went into the office today and they confirmed, they need my wife, marriage cert, copy of residence (rental contract OK) and passport and WP copies so seem like it will be easier than leaving the country.

Here we go again......... got to immigration and they could not confirm if my work permit would still be valid if I got an extension to the 90 day stamp, although my visa is valid until Dec 2012. To complicate things even more they suggested I change to a marriage visa which would cost the same as the 60 day extension but need to provide company documents and tax statements so got the accountant looking at it now.

Does anyone have experience of getting a 60 day extension (rather than leaving the country for a 90 day stamp?) to a Non Imm B visa when the visa is still valid and has this affected your Work Permit?

thanks for the assistance

Believe that depends on the view of the labour office in question. Some do accept it, some do not.

I see it as an extension of your current non-O visa, not invalidating your wp.

Phuket Labour will certainly not renew/issue a WP if you move to the 60 day 'Visiting Wife' extension - they maintain that it negates any non B status previously held.

Thanks again for the replies. Got the stamp in the end, visa not stamped as used or cancelled and assured that the b visa is still valid so looks like all ok so far. Will report in 60 days next time I leave the country.

From your comments, I assume that you have a valid non immigrant B Visa (issued outside of Thailand) - this being the case - you will probably not have a problem renewing the WP after you leave/re-enter with a 90 day stamp, whilst the original non immigrant B visa is still valid (before the 'Use Before' date).

The 60 day 2.24 extension only causes a problem with Labour as regards the renewal/issue of a Work Permit.

If your original visa has expired then the 2.24 - 60 day 'Visting Spouse' extension may cause you problems when you try to renew your WP, if however you are one a one year 2.18 'Family Member of a Thai' extension then the WP renewal/issue should not be a problem.
