Hi

I would love to find an MP3 with a printed list or a video file that will help me learn Thai spoken numbers quicker,

I know 1 thru 9 but I am not quick enough if they say 87 in Thai or 479 or ?

If I learn to "think" in Thai numbers then I can keep up

I learned to do this in German by listening to German radio and stock prices years ago :)

Something like 5 minutes of random numbers and a list that I can follow,

Any ideas ?

thanks for your help

There is much to learn Thai numbers and Thai Language everything else on YouTube

As far as random on You -tube -or anywhere else-unlikely

With a bit of free software you will be able to:

1)Download entire video as a MP3 track

2) Split the entire track into parts -one part one word

3) Play randomly on most media players

4) or Join files in a very random way

I can't see why there should be difficulty with higher numbers. They're pretty straight forward.

Just memorize what 10, 100, 1000, 10 000, 100 000, 1 000 000 is and that's it.

When saying the numbers out it's like saying it in English. The word order is even the same.

479

four hundred and seventy nine

สี่ ร้อย เจ็ดสิบ เก้า

only twenty is pronounced differently ยิ่สิบ but the others such as 30-90 is simply pronounced as three-ten สามสิบ or nine-ten เก้าสิบ

It's only a bit complicated for foreigners who's used to say ten thousand and hundred thousand where in Thai there's a special word for those numbers หมื่น and แสน

so instead of two hundred thousand, you have to say สองแสน (song saen)

but then it gets easier with numbers over million, because Thais doesn't have any special name for numbers over million.

Billion would just be a thousand million.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but there may be some exceptions to the straight forwardness.

For instance when getting a price quote at a flea market. If the merchant simply says พันสอง

he means 1200 not 1002.

That's common.

To say 1002 wouldn't they say "หนึ่งพันสอง"?

Gentlemen

With all due respect-I think you are not quite understanding the needs of this O.P.

What he asked for is to be able to listen and then understand.

It is sounds not words that he is seeking.

What I would do if nothing is readily available for what you describe is to make my own. There are probably different ways

to do it. But the way I know would be to use audacity, the computer reading voice Narisa and iTunes. These programs are all available

free to anyone with access to the net. I'm assuming they have iTunes for windows. What I would do is make a lists of numerals, record Narisa reading them with audacity, then from the recording select and save the individual audio for

each number and save it as an mp3 file named by whatever number it is such as 10. Then you can load them onto itunes

and do whatever you want. Make some separate lists of numbers or whatever play them in order or at random.

After a little tinkering, I did discover you need to enter a return key after some numbers like the teens, otherwise for

like the number 12 Narisa will say neung sawng, but with the return key after a 12 she says seepsawng.

It is really not difficult to do.
