Hi, I have an iPhone 4 bought in uk and would be approx 9 months old now and running IOS 5.0.1 sometimes when receiving calls the caller cannot hear my voice, at other times the caller hears only a whisper even though I'm talking clearly, this happens on a ratio of about for every 6 calls I make it'll happen at least once,, I've checked that the mute button is off, also taken the phone from its cover to ensure there's no restriction to the mic, I was wondering whether it was caused by interference from any apps running in the background but don't think there's anything running that shouldn't be, also reset network setting to no avail,, I do get the impression that something is causing interference since it doesnt happen on every call but I'm totally stumped as to what it could be. Just to add a thought that's came to mind, I don't recall having this problem before I updated to IOS 5.0.1

Any advice appreciated

Thanks,

Hi, i think you will find its a cross between the software update and the signal here. I phone 4's are designed to work on a minimum 3g network. The network here is more like 2.5g and has some blind spots. Both myself and my son and friends had the same problem. We did a hard reset on the phone upgraded to 5.1 software and it solved the problem. Signing up to a package for 3g GPRS a will also help. Our previous issue's are now history!

Ok, maybe I'll try updating the software, may be as your suggesting a 3G signal issue, since although we're not out in the boonies 3g isn't generally available in our area yet, however wouldn't have imagined that would have an effect on the calling quality since signal strength is ok, but then again I'm no techie,,

Thanks for your advice, much appreciated.

I had many problems with my iPhone 4 with Truemove here. I was answering my phone and the person couldn't hear my voice or sometimes a completely different person answered the phone who was not me. I tried restoring the phone and a new SIM but it didn't work. I think I just cancelled Truemove and went to AIS. Not really sure what the problem was, but they nor I could fix it.

I'm pretty sure that 3G has nothing whatever to do with phone calls; it is only for Internet. You can completely turn off the 3G and make calls normally. As for the the software upgrade, I doubt that's causing the problem either. I follow the Apple forums and have never seen anything about the software upgrade causing the problem you referred to.

Just to update, I'm currently out of the country where Internet is sometimes limited (yes more so than LOS)., but swapped iphones with the wife just in case i had further probs whilst at work and took her iPhone with me, I got her to update to the IOS 5.1 and as yet she hasn't had the issue since updating, early days yet but hopefully that's solved the problem.

Thanks
