Democrats Mark 2nd Anniversary of Political Violence

BANGKOK: -- The opposition Democrat Party today marks the second anniversary of political violence at the Khok Wua intersection saying the society needs the truth about the event rather than an amnesty.

Democrat deputy leader Korn Chatikawanich laid wreaths at the Khok Wua intersection in commemoration for those killed during the clash between red-shirt protesters and state security officers on April 10, 2010 .

The group then organized a march from the intersection during which a group of red-shirt protesters showed up to air their disgruntlement against the event .

Korn stated his party's activity today aimed to convey a message of condolence for the late victims.

He remarked the causes of their deaths must be determined to give the society the truth concerning the violence and facilitate the judicial process.

Korn said he believed the general public is ready to forgive but the truth must be found first to help prevent a repeat of such a tragedy.

He said a few groups of people have attempted to dodge court sentences given to them by ignoring the fact-finding process.

Korn said the fact-finding must cover all aspects, including the work of his previous Democrat government during the red-shirt protests in 2010.

Democrat leader AbhisitVejjajiva suggested he, former deputy premier Suthep Thaugsuban and fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawata not be granted amnesty.

I trust he will go and commemorate every act of violence committed by all sides of the red, yellow, and whatever other colour got involved in.

Commemorating one over another isn't a particularly smart political move in my opinion.

Perhaps the democrat party and certain individuals in particular might reflect on the fact the onus was on them to give society the truth by carrying out investigations in a timely manner 2 years ago and providing the committee they set up to "find" the truth with the means to do so i.e powers of sub-poena.

And then he has the cheek to say this

He said a few groups of people have attempted to dodge court sentences given to them by ignoring the fact-finding process.

Who does he mean? It's not any of the security forces, they have immunity courtesy of the Emergency Decree and have avoided any fact finding process. The Red Shirts have either served their sentences or are on bail awaiting trial. The PAD have all been sentenced but all are on bail. Who's left? Thaksin?

The fugitive is hiding in Duabi and his redshirt terrorist leaders are hiding behind their MP immunities. And they are not even embarrassed about it ...

The only truth we need (said numerous times) 90+ dead. Who gave the orders, what were the orders, were the orders carried out, if not who disobeyed them before we examined who fired a few home made rockets, who set some tyre alight and who sat in peaceful protests.

The cheek, the bloody cheek. A Democrat trying to despoil our sacret 10th of April anniversary. To be hang, drawn and quartered would be too good for him.

Interesting to see some English questioning the right of non-reds to mark an anniversary, or just come up with whatever to suggest IT'S WRONG!. What happened to fair play ?

I take it "some English" refers to me. If it doesn't ignore this post.

If you read my post I cannot for the life of me see where you think I am denying "non-reds" from marking an anniversary. I do however query his remarks. Fair Play if you can work out who Korn is referring to in his second quote. My response to his first statement does not need further elaboration.
