No I did not write that. That's the biased view you want to present, because you are unable to offer a rational counter argument. What I wrote was that the lower cost, lower quality tires dominated the market. That's what the retailers offer. If you want higher quality Continental, Michelin or Pirelli you have to go to a specialty retailer or the dealership who have significant markups. The majority of consumers have few options. They have brand label differentiations, but the quality is still low. Where do the lower income people purchase their tires? Take the Walmart in Sacremento CA. Look at the inventory. It is dominated by the lower quality brands; Kumho, Prinx, Dextero,Arroyo, Evoluux. The US brand of Goodyear and its budget brand Douglas, are a small part of the inventory. (Dextero is manufactured in the USA and is not known for high quality.) Now you offer that there is red tape? What red tape? The quality level of tires is required to increase. That's it. It is no different than requiring shatter rresistant windshields, or rear window brake lights, or tire inflation warning devices. Those standards increase the cost of an automobile. You want to turn this into government over reach, when it is nothing of the sort. It is a responsible regulatory action to protect consumers and the environment.
