Featured Replies

hello!

Yesterday I hear a German tourist talking until I wait in the Bangkok bank in Pattaya, that the rules has been changed from now, open a bankacount now only possible when Imigration office, give the stamp!

Can someone confirm this?

Try a different bank...different bank different rules

just keep trying, if one office says No just go to the next.

Kasikorn. done in 20 minutes

Can't be true with all banks and branches. Keep trying. Have had no bank ask for that or refuse request for account in years and years. Don't believe everything rumored. Go get firtst hand info for yourself. Good Lunck.

Question, Weren't the Banks closed yesterday ?

Most banks will open an account if you have a work permit. Kasikorn bank will open an account with just a passport, but each bank branch is different, so not all will do it.

Even though banks in Thailand have the same name, and you would expect them to be linked together, they are actually just like a franchise with their own local rules. The are not linked together under the same main branch. You can get charged a fee for using an ATM with your bank's name on it if you are out of your branches area. There is no real transfering money without a fee between the different branches.

Yes you can open a savings account on a tourist visa but you have limited facilities some banks will not even give you internet banking on tourist visa just an ATM debit card. But yes every bank and every branch seems to have different rules. Kasikornbank and SCB are said to be the most Frang friendly! Bangkok Bank are bureaucratic even to business here in Thailand bu seem to have better rates if transfer from Thailand to OS also I like their internet banking. Just like in other countries.

Go to Kasikorn to avoid any problems.

They open an account for you with just a passport in less than 20 minutes, including bank book and ATM card, and internet banking.

When you put some money on the account they run after you the same as clingy girlfriends do, offering preferred interest deposits (much better than their misleading adverts for 8% deposits) and even offer platinum credit cards for free.

Maybe in the farang ghetto's, try it up in a provincial town. Complete no go, 20 mins, you must be taking the piss, it would take you more than that just to reach the counter.

Ah, these are the disadvantages of living in the sticks, but then you also got the advantages, like, errr.... sorry, can't think of any. Are you sure you don't want to move?
