relatively simple situation compared to the others that I'm seeing here (I think)

I'm a US citizen traveling to Thailand from June 6- July 11 (over 30 days). my friend and I are also considered popping into cambodia to see the angkor wat during that time.

what is my best course of action with regard to thai visa? i know i will be granted a 30 day visa upon landing in the country, but obviously i will be there longer than that and from my understanding when i re-entered the country there would only be a 15 day visa granted because i was crossing the border on land - so buying a visa w/ re-entry seems like the correct choice.

so do i need to take care of this beforehand, or can it be taken care of quickly after i land in the country? I'm rather confused about the whole thing, as all the traveling I've done before has never required ahead of time visa applications.

thank you in advance for any help that is offered, it's very appreciated :)

You could get a double entry tourist visa that would cover you without any problems. You can apply by mail. Use one of the Honorary consulates, they are friendly. Here's some info:

Visa application porcedures, Portland Oregon.doc

Visa application procedures , Houston Texas.doc

A visa exempt entry would work as long as you traveled to Cambodia toward the end of your permission to stay, but the airline might not let you board the flight if you don;t have a ticket showing onward travel during the 30 days.

The other issue here and why you should get a Visa before leaving the US is that the Airline may refuse to board you unless you have proof of anward travel within 30 days. Get a tourist visa and you have no worries.

you can just book a cheap flight to siam reap or phnom penn somewhere around day 25 - 30,

you can show this to your airline if they don't let you check in.

your also only coming for 35 days with a return flight home so i doubt you will have any problems, there is also a system of extending in thailand so a 30 day can be extended to a 37 day stay.

personally i wouldn't get a visa if i were you.

have a look on air asia .com

or bangkok air .com

and look into a flight to cambodia, you can always get a bus back into thailand,

or if you don't goto cambodia get a refund on your ticket.

ankor wat is worth a visit maybe 4-5 day trip ?

where are you planning to stay in thailand ?

you will never need a double entry tourist visa for a 35 day holiday,

you could get a single entry which is 60 days,

if you pop in and out of cambodia by land just do that towards the end of your holiday.

you have a few options available

Actually a 2 entry tourist visa makes sense for a visit more than 30 days without proof of travel in advance and intent to visit a second country and return by land with possibly more than 15 days remaining. It only costs 1,000 baht more than single entry (the same cost as a re-entry permit) and no time/extra effort required to obtain.
