sick.gif When I was young I knew which programmes were broadcast each day and at which time.

So each day had a little anticipation; not much , but enough to let me decide to watch or not.

Now in Thailand with True, i really have no idea when to watch, except premier league football.

Yes they send me a magazine each month with the schedules, but so much , so many; overload.

I used to have the Radio Times in England and could identify those programmes I wished to watch, or not.

Now it is all random; I work, come home, watch and have no chance(perhaps) of watching the follow up episode. I just do not bother, most is rubbish any way.

Perhaps I should retreat to my younger days when I decided to not have television.

Or just have the Thai channels.

My son would not be in support!

i havent had a television for years ( since i sold my 42" inch plasma years ago )

eve when i had it ,i normally used it to watch movies downloaded online (not tv shows)

i would choose a computer and fast internet over a tv anyday ,you can find the content you want

and ignore the crap you dont want so much more easily

No premier League!

TV makes you stupid.

On-demand films and series OK, but no advertising and no flipping and just settling for what's on.

Isn't there an EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) on your receiver??

I chucked my television a couple of years ago. Get your content online and enjoy.

What's the difference? Except the monthly bill.

Choosing what you download means you get no commercials which can easily account for 25 minutes for every hour of programming. For example, if you want to help your child learn how to read you could download something like 'Alphablocks' and control how much they watch - if you get True, your child will be bombarded with adverts to buy toys, junk food and watch other programs.

In answer to the OP; youtube is very gradually evolving to address these issues - you can subscribe to channels, it will link similar content and make suggestions. Eventually it will replace TV, but we are some way off yet!

Certainly agre junk food and toy adds etc.

My Thai son and his wife decided a couple of years back, they dropped True, now only get 3 or 4 Thai channels but also very selective of what the kids see on these channels, and TV isn't on all day.

They quickly a couple of Thai companies / agents who produce / sell quality learning videos and aminated short stories etc, Mum and dad schedule these as required and as rewards for good behavior. doing homework etc. No advertising whatever.

It's enough.

aussiebebe nailed it.

Picking what to watch and watching it at my leisure without commercials is a huge plus. In the US, a 60 minute program is actually about 41-42 minutes of content with commercials every 7-8 minutes or so and it drives me nuts. Even youtube has commercials and the longest commercial that I skipped was a little less than 4 minutes!

tvs are for dvds and ps3

I think you are right the internet will take over from TV channels and I certainly do spend more time on line than watching True.

As stated, if there were no live premier league live broadcasts , I would ditch True.

On the only positive note for True is that sometimes I come across a programme I am not familiar with and enjoy watching it, then I can usually find it on line.

As for the EPG, there is such an overload of programmes I can never be bothered to plan my viewing any more. Episodes are repeated often for months/ years.

When I was younger I decided not to have a TV, long before the internet, as I was happy to listen to the radio and spent little time at home anyway. Now I rarely go out and do spend time viewing and yes mostly on the internet.
