Under-age drinking and drunk driving dominates Sattahip Songkran Festival

SATTAHIP:--On Tuesday, residents and visitors to Sattahip District celebrated the final day of the national Songkran festival.

Our journalist was in the area and documented multiple cases of under-age drinking andsuspected drunk driving with some drivers openly consuming alcoholic beverages as theydrove along.

Because of this the local Traffic Police were despatched to the Sukhumvit Road on the outskirts of Pattaya armed with a breathalyser machine to test levels of alcohol. Manydrivers were found to be over the limit and action was taken by Police. Bottles of beer were seized from minors who were ordered to return home immediately.

Well done to the police, but the punishments are never hard enough to deter it happening again and again. I wish the story had more about what the punishments were.
