My Thai wife and I moved to Thailand and built a home in 2006, I have never bothered to get my name on the Tabien Ban, have had a Thai driving lisence since 2006. Two days ago I managed to loose my wallet, I have cancled all credit and debit cards and have replaced the ones from our Thai bank.Today I went to get my lisence replaced, with a photo copy of my Thai lisence and passport in hand. I was told I had to apply for a new lisence they could not just replace the lisence, and that I had to show proof of residing in Thailand. When I obtained my first Thai lisence and the renewel, the manager of the school where my brotherinlaw works just signed an affidavid stating my residence, apparently this is no longer accepted, I need to have my name on the house papers.What hoops do I need to jump through?

For now you can get a letter from your local immigration office if you have the correct Visa/extension. If not then your Embassy is the second point of contact.

I replaced my lost driving license recently. The main requirement from my office was a police report of the loss. This was easily obtained at the police station for, I think 20 Baht. It was then renewed without difficulty.

Very true from the poster above, if you have done things correctly with the police report then it should be no problem at all.

As far as I know, you cannot be added to the wife's tabien baan (blue book).

You have to get your own (yellow) tabien bahn for your property.

Different rules apply for condo's I believe.

Getting proof of residence is typically:

cheap and relatively easy - using the immigration letter (if you live close to an immigration office) - varies from province to province but is typically either 200 (eg Phuket, Ubon) or 500 baht (eg Chiang Mai, SiSaket). Some posters have reported that they got a letter from the local cop shop where they did 90 day reporting; phone up your immigration office to discover cost and documentation requirements. Typically one photo, passport, partner's ID and housebook, partner

expensive and inconvenient (unless you live in Bangkok) - using the embassy. May not apply to all embassies but the British embassy charges over 2,000 baht; check your embassy's web-site or phone them up for cost and documentation requirements. You will probably have to go to BKK and possibly wait overnight while they produce the letter.

potentially cheap but potentially more involved - getting a yellow book. Often involves taking the headman (pooyai baan) with you for ID. Go to the amphur office with your partner and partner's blue book and ask them what they require.

doing the rounds/research will get you the best balance of hassle/expense.

I think every govt. office in Thailand makes it"s own rules, the first thing I did was file the police report whicch I had with me at the time of applying for a replacement lisence, yesterday obtaiened a letter from the headman of the moo ban,today of to the local office to get an official stamp on the letter, fingers crossed.

You could have your wife type a letter that you live at such and such place as well. My apartment office does that when ever I need to show some proof to get the letter at immigration.

Thanks to all who replied. After several stops and letter signing and stamping, and two hours at the local lisencing office I was able to replace my lisence
