Facebook drug dealing suspect caught by Pattaya Police

PATTAYA:--A suspected drug dealer who used Facebook to set-up appointments with buyers has been arrested by Banglamung Police.

1.7kgs of Crystal Methamphetamine and two firearms were seized along with other assets thought to have been purchased with the proceeds of selling drugs. Police Lieutenant General Panya, Region 2 Police Commissioner, led a press conference at the Police Station on Wednesday Afternoon and announced the arrest of Khun Wichanart aged 28. Facebook messages were intercepted by Police who determined a drugs delivery was about to take place on the Sukhumvit Road in Central Pattaya.

Police arrived and arrested the suspect, who arrived in his White Honda Jazz and was in possession of 1kg of the class 1 drug and a pump-action shotgun. He was then taken to his room in Soi Beokeow where a further 700g of the drug was seized along with a handgun and drug-taking paraphernalia.

Nice reminder to TV forum members that police do have internet access ....

Really that is amazing.Never knew that. Why should tv members be worried if they have internet access or not ? someone most likely tipped the police about this guy.

What type of moron does his deals through facebook clap2.gif

Sarcasm aside, you are surely not surprised how many people of all ages use their smart phones to deal with a host of things including Facebook messaging and general internet use like forums such as this. And I read many anti police posts here that seem - at best - indiscreet given that anyone can and does read them.

Yeah peter i know that. But if the members are stupid enough to think that the police don't have Internet access then may god help them.I doubt the police scan thai visa daily looking for such comments.Maybe the tpv do because of boredom .

Organizing your drug deals through fecebook was insane

Yes, I wouldn't do it but .... there are police departments that have the duty to check all sorts of things on the internet but they tend to be Bangkok based.

I am not a Tourist police volunteer BTW.

Peace.

I wasn't having a dig at you by the way but i do know some volunteers who say that some days can be extremely boring.

If you don't mind me asking what is your position ?

"there are police departments that have the duty to check all sorts of things on the internet but they tend to be Bangkok based."

Definitely.Porn and political issues defamation and fraud i guess being some of the biggest on the watch list.

But thai visa is so strongly moderated that a post that might come of any interest to a police official would be quickly dealt with.

At present I am an acting Group Leader for one of four groups of the Foreign Police Volunteers doing station duties in Pattaya and Banglamung - and some out of station duties when needed.

I shouldn't say more than that.

I am not an ex-policeman like some are but a long time resident of Thailand with Thai language skills that are often useful when interfacing with Thai police officers.

The Child Protection office at Banglamung plus TransNational divisions in Pattaya use the internet a lot and there are other police groups working drugs etc. that use that resource.

Interesting.Sounds cool.I remember there was a big thread years ago about a foreigner who worked in banglamung police station on thai vsa.Maybe that was you.

Obviously i don't want to ask to much or put you into a situation where you cant answer.

But what would your day to day duties be.I hope you are one of the good guys peter.

We need more good guys then bad.Having power can be a good or bad thing.

Banglamung station duties for FPV started only 2 years ago so it must have been an individual assistant to the station in some capacity.

We work on a group rotation system and within that a group member rotation across 5 shifts a day over 2 stations and can each expect to work 4 or 6 times a month on average.

As for transnational departments, that can be assumed to be international law enforcement liaison for both follow up on international leads as well home based crimes that span overseas links. The only link to tourist police is that eventually any and all police groups are part of the national Thai police based in Bangkok and inter-department overlap can be expected and resources get shared.
