Another Air Route Restored

"Loads"????

I didn't check other destinations but it definitely doesn't work for JFK flights. The minimum layover is 7 hours from JFK to CNX (minimum connection time at HKG is 100 or 120 minutes) and the only good connection going from CNX to JFK makes a stop in Vancouver. These flights weren't designed to make east coast North American connections.

You're right about the Vancouver stop for the JFK flight, I had that once. (though somehow landed a business class upgrade for Vancouver - JFK so it wasn't all bad). But there are plenty other desitnations in North America that leave around midnight. You can easily make those; HKIA is pretty efficient and they're not too strict on 2 hours. One hour and a bit is plenty.

CX ticketed me with a 55 minute connection once but that was CX to CX. Even though they own Dragon Air, I'm not sure they will issue a ticket with a one hour connection. If I have to buy two separate tickets to work around that and I miss my flight, they have a right to refuse a refund. Do you think I can use the argument that "Winnie said it would be OK"?

Maybe this flight will work for people flying to LAX or SFO, but not Newark, Boston, or Philly; all places I would accept landing on my way to NYC. But all those flights require a change of planes somewhere in addition to HKG. Changing in BKK and HKG is still the fastest routing. As "RKO" wrote, these flights were not intended for east coast Americans making connections.

Yes, can. wink.png I've done it when transiting TG to CX. And Dragonair is their own company; as long as the flight isn't delayed you're going to make that connection easily, the only wait is to go through security to transit to the departure level at HKIA; if it's close then just say so to the staff there.

Also CX is not some dodgy budget outfit; if you miss a flight they put you on the next one. I'm actually a huge CX fan, they treat people in a respectful way, don't play silly games.

Playing travel agent on a random day in August, this new connection is about an hour more than flying from CNX via ICN to JFK, but far quicker than going via BKK. See below:

09 August 2012

18:30-2230 CNX-HKG Dragonair KA233 3hrs

00:30-07:00 HKG-JFK Cathay Pacific CX888 18hrs 30mins

Total travel time CNX-JFK is 23hours 30mins (including changing planes at HKG & the stopover in Vancouver).

would be great if AA started flights between Chiang mai and Penang .

As they already fly Chiang Mai/KL ,KL/Penang what do you think of the chances of them flying direct ChiangMai/Penang would be?

Why is AA flying CNX-HKT when they already got a flight from CNX-BKK and BKK-HKT? blink.png

Maybe because people don't want the time/hassle to change flights at BKK ?? And Thai Airlines also fly that direct route.

exactly.

If AA switches a plane from CNX-SIN to CNX-MFM, they would probably need to switch another to get a CNX-PEN flight. Perhaps the Hat Yai flight might get the axe if there is more trouble in Pattani.
