Transport Ministry to proceed with the construction of high-speed train

BANGKOK, 25 April 2012 (NNT) – The Transport Ministry is pushing ahead with the planned construction of a high-speed train system after China and Japan have expressed interest in the project.

Transport Minister Charupong Ruangsuwan said on Tuesday that China and Japan have notified the Transport Ministry of their interest to invest in the country's high-speed train construction project.

Accordingly, the state-appointed high-speed train project committee held a meeting to discuss the detail of the investment, which will later be reported to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra for consideration.

Mr. Charupong added that, concurrently, a new committee, which will be chaired by the prime minister, will need to be set up to oversee the working committee in charge of drafting Thailand's points of demand for high-speed electric train system, the engineering technology, the funding and investment, the approaches to add value to the project and the train operating committee.

In the preliminary process, the Ministry is considering 4 possible routes, including the 745-km Bangkok-Chiang Mai route worth 229 billion baht, the 614-km Bangkok-Nong Khai route worth 201.44 billion baht, the 221-km Bangkok-Rayong route worth 72.26 billion baht and the 225-km Bangkok-Hua Hin route worth 82.16 billion baht, according to the Transport Minister.

The Thai authorities have been getting the British bridge building teams in place in Pattaya for some time now. They just smile and take your money so you can't afford to leave. A few have seen through the plan and taken the condo freefall route out.

The line stop there, unless the South is smart enough to vote for Thaksin.

I think it would the first time in history that the train system on the other side of the border is compatible.....just too good to be true.

An Asian network that is fast and cheap, maybe cheaper than transport per ship or truck might boost the economic and environment friendly...just it won't happen.

High Speed trains are useful for the "elites" and/or a system of network control in a country with high railway traffic.

I think it might but Thai Engineers have found a solution to all problems - limit train speeds to 40km per hour. What, not high speed? Easy slow all other trains to 20km per hour - problems solved!

It doesn't really matter to this bunch of PTP thieves if they build it or not. The main thing is get it approved and approve the budget before they leave office so they can get their cut. They couldn't care less about completion becuase they don't care at all.

At the Rainhill trials where George Stephenson showed off his Rocket locomotive an MP was knocked over and killed. I think Rocket was speeding along at 12 mph at the time. Just think how many Thai MP's could be wiped out with a 300 kph speedster showing off its paces. What a delicious thought.

Siemens made a High Speed train in China - for the Elite (Siemens Velaro China (Velaro CN / CRH3)) between Shanghai and Beijing.

After small problems they copy the Siemens train and other High Speed trains they tested before.

Some big accidents followed, wiki it.

Siemens is an international company, reputation wobbles between good technology and intelligent bribery.

I hate to disappoint people, but apart from topic header "TM to proceed with construction" and first sentence "TM pushing ahead with planned construction" there's nothing on actual construction. t's all about discussing, committees overseeing important parts like 'financing' and considering routes.

I thought they wanted to build a high speed double rail system from Bangkok into China and it would not go to Chiang Mai. Ultimately they want to have a high speed all the way from Singapore.

the chinese want rail to indian ocean side thru myanmar. Cuts shipping time and secures oil supply via myanmar instead of worrying about malacca straight.

Rail to singapore isnt thar vital for chinese interests. They need cheaper shiping for goods from western china. Plus when they build their port in myanmar, have to stock their navy somehow. China will have a big military footprint into indian ocean.

The airport runway only took 3 years to complete.
