Sorry, maybe a strange question. I am seriously considering marriage to a sweet Thai girl and although I would not change my mind if she did not keep a clean house, but I do want to know what to expect. For those of you who have experienced women from different cultures it would be interesting to hear your comments. I realize you have all sorts in every culture and I do not wish to be sterotypical, but I think in every culture there are some things that are consistent.

In general, do Thai women keep a clean house?

so it seems if she marry you...that´s gonna be her job...:o

are you plannig to do some housekeeping yourself?

Because if so you could teach her on how to clean...some people don´t know how to clean....

I just want to add (don´t mean to offence) your topic is a bit sexist...

I think you should have involved both sexes male and female...

My experience is that thai people keep their house in middle standar of cleaning...they don´t have their houses desinfected but they are clean...

of course you can find dirty people and clean people like everywhere...

It was not meant to be sexist. If she wants to work then certainly we can share the household chores. She will not have to work, for that matter to start she cannot work becuase she will not be permitted to while waiting for proper paperwork in the US. So my feeling is, if she is not working and I am, then her job would be to take care of the home. The same is true if she worked and I stayed home.

It is up to the person and also the education... a not so clever girl will be mostly a good housewife, not only in Thailand.

But you have to keep in mind that when she is "Mea Farang" her status perhaps will not allow low activities like housekeeping, cooking, etc. :o

Well, i have known thai girls who are very tiday and some who are as messy as it gets....so...i guess its not about a national trait..but rather an individual one....

Conclusion....It depends on your choosen girls disposition and not her nationality.... lol

Only ever met one Thai girl who was unhygenic but she was in London so no access to showers or a bidet spray.

Apart from that I find Thai females incredibly hygenic and tidy. It makes me wanna leave piles of dishes around and the floor unswept!

I said i didn´t mean to offend...

anyway my coment about being sexist was not dealing with they way your treat your girlfriend or the issues involved about who clean the house because I don´t know you...

I said it was sexist because of the topic name"Thai women and cleanliness"...

is just a remark...

and i really meant that you could teach her how to clean...because there is people who really don´t know how to clean because they never were taught.... :D

My ex/TGF was one of the tydiest, and cleanest people I knew.

She wouldn't leave the bedroom without folding everything up and making hte bed. She wouldn't ever leave the bathroom dirty, although sometimes it would be quite smelly after certain usage.

She wouldn't leave the kitchen without washing up. Sometimes to my annoyance, "I'll clean the ###### teaspoon when we get back, love. C'mon! We have to go!!!!"

Great lot, those TGs..

Thaimen I've never considered shacking up with.

You hear me! NEVER!

I know it was just a remark, but it's a sad day when somebody can't ask a direct question and then get a straight answer....without somebody getting all huffy.

give them (Shelias) the vote and look what happens... :o

Anyway, most Thai shelias that I have met have kept very clean houses. My one is quite clean, considering she is chained up to the kitchen sink. :D

In my experience 99% of the thai people I know keep a tidy but not particually clean house. Things are put away & organised but kitchen counters are wiped with a dirty bit of rag & no antibacterial spray is used.

Now I always put this down to the advertising & education we had in the west about hygene, germs etc but IMO most of my thai mates don't know the concept of hygenic food preperation or the need to use germ killing products like bleach in kitchen & bathrooms. (and before I get flamed, this is a personal observation from my friends houses & the mother in law) :o My old man is a tidy person but is nearly blind when it comes to dusty countertops or dried food on the chopping board.

I agree 100%

I know some thai households that are spotless, and then I have been to some that i was afraid to touch anything. Funny thing is the one that are dirty run a resturant. I will never eat there because I know how filthy they are.

The one thing that I have trouble getting my head around is the clean inside/filthy outside syndrome.I've been in plenty of Thai houses where inside was spotless, only to find litter and rubbish from a$sehole to breakfast time outside. :o
