The report could not be independently verified. The official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said rebels attacked a military unit on the coast near the port city of Latakia, about 35 kilometers (21 miles) south of the Turkish border. The report said the rebels were forced to flee after a clash, although few other details were made available. The state-run news agency quoted an official source as saying that an unknown number of people were killed and injured on both sides. The attack, which cannot be independently verified due to government restrictions on the media, comes a day after Lebanese authorities reported finding weapons on board a vessel which may have been en-route to Syria. It is the first reported seaborne attack since the start of the 13-month-long uprising, which has resulted in the deaths of more than 9,000 people. On Friday afternoon, a suicide bomber detonated himself in the pro-opposition Midan neighborhood of Damascus as worshippers were leaving the nearby Zein al-Abidin mosque following Friday prayers. A total of nine people were killed, including civilians and law enforcement personnel, while 26 others were injured. tvn.png
