Extension On 15 Day Visa Exempt Stamp

Featured Replies

Is it possible to get an extension on a 15 day visa exempt stamp issued when entering Thailand by land?

The maximum you can get is 7 days at a cost of 1900 baht and you will have to show a ticket exiting Thailand during the 7 days. The 7 days will start on the day that you apply and not be tacked on the end of your current permission to stay, so wait until the last day.

is an open ticket OK?

That will depend on the officer.

Note that if you just do a new border run you will get another 15 days.

My 30 day visa expires tomorrow. I am just waiting for some documents back from my employer so I can go to Vientiane to apply for my non-imm B. It was my plan to just go and get the 7 day extension.

Are you saying I cannot do this without proof of onward travel, which I haven't got?

I do have a copy of my contract, all signed. Will this suffice if I explain my case?

Likely it will.

You intend to travel to Vientiane, why not just book the ticket then you have no problems at all.

The reason being, I'm not exactly sure when i'll be getting the documents back. I really don't want to book tickets and then can't make the train, so lose money on them. I've looked already, from what I can see they are non-refundable (booking online). It's a while since I travelled by train in Thailand, and I can't remember if buying them direct from the counter you can refund them. Even so, that would mean a long and expensive trek to Hualampong, unless someone has a better idea?

It would make sense to me to go to immigration and ask, they are the ones that make the decision.

My thinking was, if I go and get refused, i'll go and get a cheap train ticket up to Nong Khai. Will this be proof of onward travel? It's proof of travel to the border, but doesn't exactly guarentee I'll cross the border when I get there. But then I suppose an air ticket doesn't guarentee you'll actually get on the plane.

I'm hoping that if I show them my contract, and if they are still not willing to do it, have them ring my employers to confirm my story.

I could always do the aranyaprathet border run, but I've done it so many times in the past, i'm just not sure I can face the hassle.

Train to Vientiane and a flight back has solved the problem. Otherwise a second visa run would have been needed.
