Did you ever see the movie Vegas Vacation with Chevy Chase? Do you remember the scene where cousin Eddie takes Clark to the "casino" and they had games like pick a number and rock paper scissors?

It's not quite that bad but not great either. If you like busloads of Thai farmers then this is your place. The only edible buffet was breakfast. The rest of the time you will probably want to order from one of the 2 other restaurants there. The Chinese restaurant was really good, the other one was not bad but at least it had western food.

How was the room and is the casino near the town so you can just hang out for a couple of days while they take care of the visa?

The room was ok but was already showing some wear and tear. The casino is in town and there were lots of tuk-tuks and vans for hire to take you where you need to go. The driver of Van #20 took me to the consulate and on a tour of the local area for a few hours and then shopping at a few places for 800 baht for the day. He seemed to be a genuinely nice guy who was proud of his home and enjoyed showing people around. He also looked out for me when some of the locals tried to jerk me around on some shopping.

If you fly up there make sure you arrange airport pick up ahead of time. There are no taxis at the airport.
