Mystery Stinging Insect - With Wings

Recommended Posts

Over the last week myself and my family have been stung many times by these buggers.

They look like a cross between a mosquito and a flying ant.

The have wings , shaped like a slightlky larger mosquito with a orange boday.

I will try and post a pic later - they are usually on the floor - when they are stepped on by mistake they either sting or bite - I suspect the former and the pain is quite severe for a few seconds - almost like a pin being stuck into the flesh.

They seems to be prevalent after a heavy rain.

My wife is from Thailand and ,as per usual, she had no interest until she was stung as well laugh.png

She has no idea what they are either.

Sounds like a termite hatch. but I've never known them bite or sting. There is one we get, body about .75" to 1 inch long. My wife calls the Mot Daeng. The body is a tan colour, and she says those sting. They are not red ants.

You picture shows an assassin bug. These insects belong in the order Hemiptera and in the family Reduviidae. Species in the genus Triatoma feed on the blood of mammals and humans.

If your newly found friends tend to bite you around the mouth, then they are referred to as kissing bugs.
