"La Gritta" very nice but very expensive.....but I'm not sure if they do pizzas!

They have pizza ...

http://www.pizzaoftheworld.com/pizzeria-42.html

Not the same "La Gritta"..........the link is for a pizzeria called "La Gritta" on the Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok.

Correct.

I meant the Bangkok Grit place as the discussion had expanded to Pizza in Thailand, not just Pattaya.

Genuine Italian pizzas and other Italian food can be found at the restaurant called "Spaghetti Italia - Non Solo" in Jomtien Complex Plaza. Most of the ingredients are imported from Italy and, in my opinion, the pizzas are the best that I've ever tasted.

OK, I do have to say I tried this place and I can understand why people would think this is good pizza ... but in my opinion,

the topping ingredients, much better than bad, not exceptional

the cheese, average at best

the crust, below average to my taste, doughy, not crisp, wimpy, just not happening.

Overall impression, wouldn't send it back, wouldn't go again.

Haven't tried the pizza at Pan Pan up the road a bit but a recent calzone there was excellent.

Have tried pizzas in: Hong Kong, N.Y Miami, San Francisco, Cozumel, Rome, Rimini, Neaples, Belgrade, Sarajevo, Zagreb, Charleston, London, Bangkok, Pattaya, Cartagena (why did I ever?) Kingston etc and bla bla bla.

I just have to say.. Best one ( and off topic) local pizza place/steakhouse - center Gothenburg - Sweden... Capricciosa with extra meat and garlic.. Yummy!! :o

Taste is like you behind... Two sides of story.. :D

Love your pizzas all!

I agree, taste in food or anything is so subjective and largely based on your personal history.

However, when you say there two sides to my behind, is that a Swedish joke?

I am always eating thai food and would like the occasional pizza. I live in jomtien but I am in pattaya often. let me know where you can find the real deal, not pizza hut ? any Italian owned Pizza places would be great.

I guess I am the only one who can tolerate the PIZZA COMPANY, Royal Garden, Beach Road side. I miss the 59 baht pepperoni special they used to have last year. Definitely better than the Pizza Hut!

I agree on one thing nothing beats an "East Coast" pizza, especially in Mass. and RI.

GO PATS!!

Pizza Company do a very "tasty" Pizza, unfortunatley most of the taste comes from the massive amounts of MSG they add for this reason, my body tends to go into "Shock" :D mode 30 minutes after eating! :o

Cheers :D

Stumbled accross this map, one of the better ones I have seen, it shows Dao's place.

Cheers.

I've looked for this place and could not find it. the petro; station is actually on the other side of the road. Is it somewhere in the area of the petrol station?

Barry, Dao Cafe. On the same side of Soi Nern Plub Wan as, and just near the Esso petrol (gasoline) filling station there is a big archway with dark brown slate pillars with creaping vines growing on them and at the top of the archway writing in thai script. Go down through the archway and keep going till you get to a square with all demolished buildings that looks like a bomb site. At the end of the square take a right and then a left and the Dao Cafe is about 50 metres on the right.

The bread is really good but you have to get there by about 1.00 pm or its all sold out. They sell various pastries and the pizza and pasta are very good. There is also a swimming pool which is free to use as long as you buy something there and also at the back of the complex if you go down a series of corradoors there is a bar with short time rooms.

Cobber, when you say that "the bread is really good", do you mean the pizza dough, or do they sell good fresh baked bread there?

George, Its a combination French style bakery/cafe. They make loaves, bagettes etc and also pasteries. From where you will be living it saves a trip all the way into Pattaya if you want fresh bread , but as i said previously , you have to get there before about 1.00 pm or all the bread is sold out.

North Pattaya is spoilt for choice when it comes to Pizza. You have Pizza Hut at big C. On Second road after soi zero you have La Piolla. From Beach raod side on Soi Zero leaft hand side there is the Tratorria which is ok, the Smoked Salmon is excellent. Further up Soi zero on the right there is another one (can't remember its name) but I didn't like it, there was have an inch of cheese on a soggy crust. The newest of them all is Monte Carlo, about 50 metres up Soi 1 on the left (opposite Markland) very good for my taste, very crispy base.

Thanks, Cobber! Sounds great! I also heard of a sandwich shop on the road to Maprachan Reservoir that is supposed to have great bread. But this place is, I believe, literally within walking distance of my house!

...Pattaya...right in front of big C...2nd road (I think)...don't remember the name...not first class restaurant...but their pizza margherita is very similar to a real italian pizza...but NOTE...ONLY the pizza called Margherita...with no toppings...for me (and I'm Italian) is the best in Pattaya.

They also do delivery service 24h...

Ahh, Pawtucket. When I was young, my folks had some friends who lived there. They had a son about my age. My clearest memory of Pawtucket was the day that he and I went to a theater there, and saw the original (Boris Karloff) "Frankenstein"! Scared the livin' bejesus out of me! "-) It was getting dark as we walked back to his house. I remember crossing a bridge, and both of us breaking into a run to get off the streets! :-)

That would be Trattoria Toscana on Soi Zero which is the best pizza I've had recently, i.e. it seemed better than the ones I've had there previously. Crust is still cutable when you're half way through the pizza.

The other you mention is Le Arcate. I stopped going there once Toscano opened. I don't know how they stay in business since the Marina Regent Hotel was demolished as they got a lot of business from guests who were staying there. They have no visiblilty from Beach Rd. and since Soi Zero is blocked off you cannot reach it from 2nd Rd.

Basically 99% of all pizzas outside Italy are crap...especially American ones which bear absolutely no resemblance to the real thing whatsoever....if there is a good peroper Italian pizza available in Pattaya I would love to know where they get there mozzarella from....

There was an Italian guy - Mario (Big muscular chap, worked out a lot, rode a thee wheel motorbike, usually with someone on the back, (not always) as he was classified as partially blind - !) opened a Mozzarella cheese "factory" on Theppassit a couple of years ago, not sure if he is still in business, as last I heard he had a massive heart attack!

Only in Pattaya :o

Don?t see how you can say American pizzas bear absolutely no resemblance to the real thing whatsoever.

Do Italian pizzas not have cheese, capsicums, tomatoes, olive oil, to mention a few ingredients and are baked in an ovens? Sounds about the same to me.

Pizzas not that special.

If you look you can get good pizza in pattaya if you wish to eat that.

Happy new year.

American food, including pizzas, is the worst, but try explaining that to Americans. For them everything American is the dogs dangly bits.

Well, American mass market beer (a la Budweiser) is crap, you are speaking from ignorance. If you have eaten around America, you have gone to the wrong places, because there is great food there.

Also, Americans have a special talent in making foreign foods their own, who would have guessed that Vietnamese Pho is now an American food?

I will grant some of the raw ingredients, such as tasteless chicken, don't help.

It is a recurring theme, "Not as good as in America" I have to disagree in most cases the goods are mass produced for a vast market for a mostly unhealthy , overweight society :o

Cheers :D

Fair enough, but it sounds like you are talking more about your objections to American people than American food.

Take Vietnamese pho, for example.

Tried it in Bangkok. OK.

Tried it in Hanoi. Better.

In America, even better.

I also think you are confusing mass produced American food and chain restaurants from the huge subculture in the US that supports and enjoys much better food. Not the same thing at all.

Could be the old Leroy Theater back then! Division Street Bridge?

When you drive up Soi Kaonoi from Sukhumvit, turn left at Seven Eleven shop after passing the railwayline.

This soi is in very bad condition so drive carefully, Dao Cafe is on left side about 200 meters from Seven!

The French owner also runs a bakery with all kinds of bread.

If they not closed it they have a "bar" at the back side with rooms.
