May 12, 201214 yr Whilst my wife was getting ready to go out, there was a thing in the news about Taxis, the main points beings: 1. A taxi cannot refuse a fare. 2. The meter must be used at all times. If this does not happen you can report the taxi to the Central (1584) and you will also receive a bonus for doing so. You must use the ID of the taxi (one inside the door, or registration plate) My Opinion - this is not gonna work, also if it is a farang that calls, are the staff in the central confident enough in English.
May 12, 201214 yr How much would said bonus be? A visit from a couple of Suratthani motorcycle taxi guys. Edited May 12, 201214 yr by harrry
May 12, 201214 yr How much would said bonus be? A visit from a couple of Suratthani motorcycle taxi guys. Are they bad people?
May 12, 201214 yr If this is also applicable to Pattaya meter taxis - then a certain "baht bus riding member" will be positively coming in his pants!!!

You must use the ID of the taxi (one inside the door, or registration plate) I opened the door of a taxi outside chatujak, told him where I was going, he gave a price, I said 'no, meter'. He dissed me off. I said okay, took out my phone and dialed the number on the taxi ID (1584) while focusing on his details, for my trouble I was called 'Ai Heeah' quite violently and a Thai who seemed to be slightly in charge of the taxis (presumably as it's an important tourist site and the taxis drivers stopping to death a farang wouldn't look good) had to jump in to stop him attacking me with a machete. Lovely people. btw, the 1584 number was either engaged or they didn't pick up, I forget which. Pity my phone wasn't a camera phone.
May 12, 201214 yr How much would said bonus be? I think at chatuchak or wat po you can make a 100.000 a day :-)
May 12, 201214 yr Both these rules have always been in force. The only think I've never heard of is the "bonus" but sounds impossible to enforce, probably very low and I would think only for Thais. I would be amazed if this actually changed anything in practice for even a week or two. Life will go on as usual TiT.
May 12, 201214 yr How much would said bonus be? A visit from a couple of Suratthani motorcycle taxi guys. preferable to a hitman from Nakon Si Thammarat
May 12, 201214 yr How much would said bonus be? I think at chatuchak or wat po you can make a 100.000 a day :-) or out front of central world. i simply dont go there because it is such a hassle to leave. one might ask if you cant even get into the cab, how are you supposed to see the reg plate or driver id?
May 12, 201214 yr How much would said bonus be? A visit from a couple of Suratthani motorcycle taxi guys. preferable to a hitman from Nakon Si Thammarat Actually I think 80 % of the Taxis are Isaan, 19 % Bangkok and 1 % South. And mostly red shirts so I guess not too much connections to NST...... Beside that at the moment you can make more money with rubber than with shooting people
May 12, 201214 yr Rules like this are only lip service. Never to be enforced in Thailand. I certainly hope not. Especially as it might apply to long-distance taxi service.

I think you'll find that the car's registration plate is outside the car, usually on the bumpers. Posted with Thaivisa App http://apps.thaivisa.com

The proper Thai answer to "Ai Heeah", is saying "Kwai" or "A Lao".....Sure that will impress them.

Even go to the other area of Bangkok is a big problem. I think if you crucify every Taxi driver on the spot it couldn't be enforced.....

May 12, 201214 yr When in Bangkok I never bother with the taxis that loiter outside the Hotel I'm staying, I just walk along the road and find one passing that'll use the meter. Last week we left the hotel with our bags and started walking to Sukhumvit road. One of the drivers jumped in his car and raced along the road honking his horn at us. Fair enough I thought, he wants the fare. My GF told him we were heading to Bangkapi (about 100 Baht fare). He didn't like that and drove off.

Outside the center the taxis are nice and honest people. Inside downtown it is the opposite.
