Move To India?

Featured Replies

Anybody spent ,say, a year or so, in India? Ive got itchie feet and thinking about a move.

Just remember you cannot stay there for longer than 6 months, on a tourist visa,

then you must leave for 2 months before you can return.

Which rather rules it out as a long term option.

Is it possible to get something like a retirement visa for India? I'm sure I've read something about long term visas.

No, unless you are of Indian origin............... :bah:

Google India retirement visa for details

You could try for a teaching job?

I was offered a headmaster position at an apparently "prestigious" international school in Bangalore. I'm not academically qualified for such a spot, but they said my manner and appearance perfectly fit the bill as the "farang front man" for marketing purposes, and I would have few actual work responsibilities. Full expat package but base salary was equivalent to less than B30K, while I was making over B100K just freelance tutoring at the time. Might have taken them up on it based on the free tuition for my kids but they wanted me to front all my intial travel and relo costs up front until the 90-day probation. Overall smelt fishy so declined.

Big place is India. Far north looks like Switzerland in some places, area round Chennai (Madras) is completely different. Cultural differences are huge, area to area.

Also quite common to get the trots in India. Worked there for a while and constipation is unheard of
