missymoo
I've never heard of such courses available as no Thai would want to admit that they are unhygienic by enrolling. This would be losing face. Also, I think it would be kind of offensive for you to suggest to your wife that she needs a housekeeping/hygiene course. I do understand your frustration though as I've had a number of boyfriends who did not know how to wash the dishes properly and I've always ended up having to do them again. There is no easy way to tell them either as they all got upset when I told them that they needed to wash dirtier/greasier things last but I thought that was just common sense....guess not. tolsti
there is a company that specialises in hygiene training.... however it is more for hotel/restaurant groups. I will send you the contact details in PM so as to not be seen to be advertising.
Sheryl
I think post #3 is spot on. Any courses you would find would be aimed at maids or restaurant/hotel employees and the like and it would be a huge loss of face for your wife to attend. And if she is not insulted by the suggestion then she'll likely just think you are being foolish. Procedures for food preparation/hygiene are handed down from mother to daughter and often deeply rooted. If you are really concerned, you could try asking her to and a step to the dishwasing process: dipping at least the utensils (and especially any chopping boards) into a basin of water with chlorine bleach added. Perhaps making the case that farangs are more susceptible to GI infections than Thais and need this "special" precaution. Or -- and this will likely be much more popular with her -- buy a dishwasher that operates with hot water and guarantees a certain temperature. utensils. mommysboy
Thais are really quite clean people on a personal level. All you need to do is say you get sick a bit more easily than them and they will help you. Sounds like OP could do with going to Charm school.

I would go one step further and suggest if you wife is not meeting your exacting standards....I would humbly suggest getting off the couch and put your beer down and do it yourself... or option "B" buy here a proper dishwasher and i am sure there will be much envy of your wife in village or option "C" employ a maid and put her on the course Edited June 8, 2012 by Soutpeel
