Refugees Evicted From Delhi Neighborhood

Around 2,500 Rohingya refugees who had been camped out in front of the Indian office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in New Delhi’s upscale Vasant Vihar neighborhood have been forced to leave. The presence of the refugees, who had been in the Indian capital for about a month, met with growing resistance from local residents. Last week, most moved to an open area in Sultan Garhi, the site of a mausoleum, but were also met with protests there. The refugees are demanding full recognition by the UNHCR.
