Hello!

I've got different information from our school personnel and from my friends I've talked to so I'm a bit confused regarding my upcoming visa run in Laos.

First of all, I have quit from my teaching job. My contract ended last April but my work permit and working visa will expire on 1 June. The school is kind enough to extend my visa and work permit up to its expiry, not cancelling it after I finished my contract in April.

Now, I'm planning to do a visa run on the 27th of May, arriving in Laos on the 28th, early morning. However, I've got different confusing information. Some of my friends say any time before June 1st, I could just go out of the country (without a re-entry permit) and my visa will be automatically cancelled at the border and when I come back, I would be given a double entry tourist visa (4 months). Others insist that I should cut first my working visa, then exit to Laos and show to the border immigration a document given by the school stating I'm no longer connected to any work, so I could get the double entry tourist visa.

Which is which? Do I really need to cut my working visa and work permit FIRST before doing an exit to be able to get a double entry tourist visa (4 months) in Laos? Or can I just exit a week earlier my permit and visa expiry, and cut my visa at the border? Will I get the same double entry tourist visa when I come back?

Thanks for all your help.

You normally require proof that the Visa is going to be cancelled because of your job situation, so that they issue another Visa (tourist).

Best is before you go abroad cancel the work permit and the permisison to stay from immigation with a letter from the school clearly stating the last day of employment.
