I am looking at my next annual visit to abroad to tick some boxes for a visa, so off to Laos on this trip.

I am looking at driving and making a bit of a family trip out of it. Leave the car on the Thai side and go fro a couple of day (3 days or less) across the border.

My wife is fine, but the kids I see may be a challenge.

Their biological farther is no where to be seen, (probably jail wink.png but who knows or cares).

Ages 12 and 8 years. The kids do not have a passport nor ID cards yet.

Anyone have any experience in a situation a bit like this Visiting Laos?

Cheers. thumbsup.gif

EDIT, I do check this info.

LAND BORDER CROSSING

For land border crossings into the opposite province, yes, an ID card is all that is needed.

Just before you cross the border, there will be a booth with with process a 'border pass' on production of a Thai ID card and a photo I think. The pass costs 50 baht from memory and is used in place of a passport. You get stamped in/out of each country with that. You only get a 3 day stay in Laos on that, and technically, only in the opposite province.

For longer stays, a Thai passport is needed. A Thai citizen will be stamped in for 30 days on the passport. No visa on arrival is needed

Thai jeuveniles can get a Lao temp pass in Nong Khai if travelling with one spouse (mummy, in this case) and cross the bridge for three days. BUT you must take the original house registration (blue books).

Easy peasy. I did that on occassions. Actually, I even take my neice and nephew and just show their blue book without theirs mum. But, Im not sure that is legal but you know how easy we can cross the Lao border.

With Mummy, no problem. If you doubt it, call the Lao embassy in bangkok and they will confirm to your wife.

Have fun. If you want a place to park up, pm me as you can park for free.
