When I moved into my new house at the start of this month, where there is no adsl or cable connection available, I had the choice between Ais,true and Dtac as 3G provider since they all have a valid signal.

As I read on this forum repeatedly that those Thai providers, Ais and True, are actually crap and that the farang provider Dtac is so much better in service I knew that would be my choice.

In fact I'm located about 2-3 km from the Dtac tower and get signals up to 80% most of the time, but in reality almost half of the time my signal will switch to wcdma, however I have used less than 30% of my usage limit and even when I get the hspa indicator on my speeds are crap.

For example, right now the indicator light says I'm connected to a hspa+ network but I can't get a speedtest to Bangkok completed.Downloads from my Gmail come in at 5-8 KB/sec.

So if this is the best provider in Thailand, how crap are the others?

Maybe you should have tried them all first. Just a thought!

I'm on TRUE 3h and Dtac. I used to love Dtac, it had the best edge connection. But they have been screwed by the establishment a few times that had slowed them down.

3h got a leap on the rest by doing the dodgy deal with CAT but that seems to be backfiring on them.

My 3h has been going to 2g and roaming a lot more than a few weeks ago. Oh and I think most telecom companies here are waiting for the much vaunted 2100mhz 3g auctions.

So if I understand correctly they are all the same.In fact I have tried True H and they had a reasonable speed, but the problem is that you need to reboot them every 3 hours.

Oh and for the 3G auctions,I have been told that the 2100 actually stands for the year that they will happen.

Basically, yes - they're all as bad as one another - except it depends 100% where you're at. What works quite well here on provider a, is crap on provider b. Move 1Km in any direction and the opposite may be true. In other words whoever suggested trying them all (I got confused by the nested quotes) hit the nail on the head.

The "3 hour disconnect" problem on Cat My / True-H was very short lived, by the way. Apart from a hiccup a few weeks ago where it came back for a day, the problem seems to have been found/fixed.

Can you share any details re; your equipment?

Please give the exact make, model?

Did this device ever work satisfactorily for you?

Can you give any details re: your location?

Can you share any details on your applications/requirements? You mention the TrueMove H 2:59 disconnect issue, which I think may have been addressed, so suspect your application may be an air-card and broadband replacement? Maybe you could try CAT My or TOT?

Can you share any details re: your SIM, and plan from DTAC/Happy?

More details rather than none or fewer may elicit constructive feedback?

I would always suggest people experiment with SIMs and service prior to making any longer term arrangements. SIMs are ~ 50 baht and you can get a daily plan for 49 baht so it is relatively inexpensive to do some experimenting.

It seems to be sorted out as I discovered that the usb dongle I bought on 14 May was faulty.I found it out as I used 2 other dongles with the same sim and they both gave a much better result.

Since there was a 7 day exchange period and 21 May looks to me as the 7th day I yesterday went back to JIB to change the dongle for a replacement.

However at JIB I was told that between 14 and 21 May are 8 days.and they refused to exchange.

The dongle was an Ifox 685, which in reality is a Huawei E173, and I expect that there are a lot of those devices faulty, since the sales clerck told me on purchase spontaniously that I should come back if there was a problem. It should have rung the bell already then.

So let this be a warning for future purchases that JIB does not respect the 7 day exchange period which is clearly written on their bill.

Seems to be 8 days to me, the 14th was the 1st day and the 21st was the 8th day.

Opinions differ, but my opinion is that if I purchase something today that tomorrow is the first day after purchase.
